Hello,

Im currently playing through Doom 3 again (just got to Alpha Labs), and im bricking it (Darkened room/max detail/headphones).

Now when it comes to scary games im a bit of a whimp, but i want to buy F.E.A.R.

Is that any scarier? which is the worst (most spine chilling/flinch inducing) in your opinion?

Ta.

Aliens vs Predator as the Marine.

The range locator thingy bleeping away as in the film is scary, especially when the pitch and frequency of the bleeps changes and you know something is heading your way! It does have the best gun in any game though so that makes up for it.

I think FEAR will mess with your head more. Doom 3 is more about visceral horror; FEAR seems (and I've just played the SP demo) to be more psychological.

For sheer "That's just...WRONG"ness, you can't go much further than the Silent Hill games.

Of course, every horror-based game in history is trying to live up to the bit in Resident Evil where the dog comes through the window...

not only is fear scarier....its a far better game too.

Doom's a.i. is pretty pathetic as is the physics engine.

Fear excells in both. On top of that the multiplyer in fear is a real laugh and far better than the the dross ID coded.

hehe, took me a while to work my way through that one too...

Multiplayer AVP 1 was even worse as the marine, as you got about one bleep from the motion tracker before being violently impaled by an aliens tail.. not nice.

GET FEAR. I'm a big girly when it comes to Doom 3. but playing fear is soo good. I am not that far in. just got the the guys who camouflage themself and try and beat the crap out of you. So you maxrix them with s shotgun.

amazing graphics and the cuts scenes are good too.

I only just last night started playing multiplayer which is really good.

well worth the money but you need a very hi spec PC to get the most out of it

Nothing comes close to the Cradle level on Thief 3, you haven't experienced true in-game terror til you've played through that, it screws with your head in a way F.E.A.R only wishes it could. F.E.A.R's still a top game though and is less predictable than Doom 3, as you can spot when things are going to happen in Doom 3 before long, whereas in F.E.A.R you can be quite happily walking through an area and you just happen to catch sight of Alma (the freaky little girl) out of the corner of your eye, much more chilling than the 50th Imp teleporting in behind you.

It wasn't just me and my mates playing it in a darkened study at night that got the fright of their lives then?

It's of some age now, but does anyone remember the System Shock games? Those were great and had a fantastic tense and claustrophobic atmosphere. IMHO, System Shock 3 is begging to be made.
