Hi lads

I managed to pick up GTR for the princely sum of 13 pounds on ebay :D. I plan on joining you all for some racing, but what do i need to install to get up to date? Any patches, mods etc ??

I hope it isnt as bad as trying to get GPL working !!

1) patched to 1.4 (via the ingame updates section)

2) steering wheel

3) patience of a saint

4) good Gfx card (min really 128mb for any good running)

5) and if you're anything like me an additional 3Gb of add-on tracks and cars

Right i installed it last night - is good ! Love the sounds and graphics - although it seems that the other cars lag/jerk a lot... anyone else experience this ?

Sounds like you need to turn the gfx resolution or options down. click CTRL F in game and you'll see a FPS reading at the top right, anything less than 30 is bad for smooth driving.

I too picked up GTR on ebay but for £15. Plus I got TOCA RACE DRIVER 2 and RICHARD BURNS RALLY thrown in. bargain!
Now just need a new, bigger HD to install them and a patient wife...

OK now I need to know if there are any Lotus Esprits in the game. If not I am gonna need to download a skin with a soundtrack. (Esprits don't often have memorable soundtracks unless sports exhausts are fitted so cut and paste as applicable ;-) )

I will be, probably about 8ish, I'll create a game under our usual heading 'pistonheads' with the password - PHLeague (case sensitive)

get the Maserati mod 1st as these are what we are running in the current championship and are by far the most fun (driftable)

c u l8r maybe

Nick

I know it gives you a FPS drop if you use it.

I'm attempting to host, partly to see if I can set up my router/firewall correctly. If you try to join but can't, please post here and I'll see if there's anything I can fix.

Basically it locks the maximum frame rate to the refresh rate of your monitor.

It prevents 'tearing', where the frame changes halfway through the monitor's refresh and you can see the discontinuity where the monitor has drawn half of one frame and half of another.

Leave it on, it won't affect your framerate at all if its less than the refresh of the monitor anyway and prevents tearing if its greater

I use 1024x768x32bpp and the current Omega drivers on my Radeon 9700, completely stable here.

Did you remove the old drivers first? There is a utility on ATI's website that does a pretty good job of getting rid of all traces of them, better than just using the built in uninstaller.

I'm using a radeon 9600XT with catalyst 5 drivers + omega overwriting them... i'll have to try the removal tool as i just updated this time around...

I never usually have grief like this with my pc but battlefield2 and gtr are causing me a suitable amount this week

Just downloading some tracks and cars - where is a good place to get tracks ? It looks like there are loads of different versions of the same track out there - i want to make sure i have the same version as you guys.

Also - i downloaded a couple of capri and escort .rar files - i gather these must also be the same on everyones pc so you can see them ??

Not quite - the mods must be on the server - if a player doesn't have the mod he may not be able to join the server at all - otherwise if you can join but don't have the mode that the server/other players have, all you will see is a pace car tooling round instead of whatever the car should be.

For the escorts, capris and maseratis, everyone needs the mod or you can't play.

OK so where do you download the Maserati for example.

I got my copy second hand, will this affect the online gameplaying as the previous owner must have registered and I seem to get login/password fail messages when I try.
I have emailed the technical support people, hope to get a reply soon if at all.
