I've spent the best part of the evening messing around trying to get this to run - first off it started to not respond when connecting to the account server, then not responding when i did a server refresh.... then it too about 5 minutes to load a level - then when i did load the level i couldnt see much as there was too much fog ! lol PLus the controls wont let me remap shift to prone as its used 5 other places....
My system aint that old but its running like a dog... Like what i saw though ! :d

make sure you've got the latest patch.
some of the levels have quite a lot of tropical or sandstorm fog anyway, but i guess if you have all the settings down low then it might be really really foggy. try increasing the view distance thing under the video settings.
on the controls front, you probably have to unmap shift first. maybe?
my old system was an AMD 3200 with 1gig ram and last years nvidia FX 5950 video card. that played OK with most settings on low or medium. have a look at this link for things to try to improve it...

great game tho. there's often someone from my house online as Dogflaps - we only play ranked servers
yup u need a fairly high spec system, but you can turn the detail and res down so it will work with your set up .. .. ..
main issue is Graphics card, if you aint got a fairly new/powerfull one then forget it.
I am usually on every other night when im in UK, I only go on ranked servers and play as ducatigary usually some where near the top of the rankings so shouldn't be too hard to find.

Anyone got any recommendations on a hefty video card ? I dont want to spend hundreds though... I also think my system only dopes upto AGP x4 so is it even worth getting a top bollox card if the board can use it !? :d
no point getting a top gfx card if the rest of your system isn't up to it. if you look at www.microdirect.co.uk they have loads of gfx cards & also a bargain basement bin of old stock. agp 4x is very out of date now so you're gonna struggle to play bf2 with that i would have thought.
AGP x4 very out of date - grrrr the system isnt 2 years old i dont think !!
I was looking at the Asus 6600 GT - its cooled via a bizarre radiator as opposed a fan so it will be nice and quiet ! It says you can get on average a 17% increase when you clock it as well

yeah, kind of sucks how quickly stuff gets dated. Just make sure your card bandwidth matches your muthabord or you might not get the improvement you're paying for. ie match 8xAGP car with 8xAGP card or PCI express with PCI express. but you probably know that anyway.
cheers. might see you online
Asus 6600 GT < is a x8 AGP interface.
will not work on a x4 agp slot, may damage mainboard or graphics card or both.
you will need a new mainboard to upgrade to anything sensible.. .. .. ..
on the bright side, see this little movie thing I found reminds my of BF2

Anyone know if my GeForce-Go 6400 256mb card will run this ok ?
Also how is the game controlled ?
Mouse, Keys, JoyPad etc ?
probably run it pretty ok, depends on the rest of ur system. on my old system which is:
athlon 3200 xp (32bit), 1gb 400mhz ram, nvidia fx5950 256mb card. not sure how that stacks up compared to yours but that ran the game quite ok - just had to drop the detail, light and shadows down.
my new machine has dual 7800 cards, 2 gb ram and a 4400 64bit cpu & that will run battlefield at full whack (tho with only 1gb it stuttered a bit at anything more than 1024 x 768 on the wide open maps). looks a lot better obviously, but the gameplay is the same - possibly a bit easier to aim on hi res, and smoother, but all in all, the same.
gameplay, its the usual keys and mouse to run around and shoot people. when you get in a vehicle is the same. flying planes and helicopters you can go mouse, keys or joystick. driving boats is keys and mouse. its pretty straight forward really.

With first-person-shooter games its all about frames per second, the higher FPS you have the better your aiming will be.

i see your fps and i raise you resolution. when you're aiming with a higher resolution, say at something small then its easier to get your crosshairs on it if its more than one pixel.
but true - higher fps makes the most noticable difference.
of course, with something online you need a low latency too or you might aim brilliantly at someone who isn't there anymore.

[numpty question]
Where do i find that out ? and what is acceptable?
[/numpty question]
there's probably a command in the bf2 console to display it. dunno what it is tho. there are some 3rd party fps display things... i think there's one called 'fraps'. i would assume something of 60fps or more is probably ok? seeing as thats about the low rate of most monitors. *awaits more knowledgable person*
I'm speccing a new system to run games. I have a p4 2.4 system already - anyone know if a Single Core AMD Athlon 64 3500 is better than a p4 2.4 (my existing system)? It says in brackets that is 2.2ghz - so i guess its the efficiency that counts here right ?
