Vague title I know!

Up until a couple of years ago, a few mates and I used to play Command and Conquer Generals once every couple of weeks. All of us live miles away from each other so it was a nice way of socialising a little.

Generals itself was great though we had to fart around a bit with VPN's etc to use it and I found the EA portal thing a total pain too. But the games were fun. We eventually had just played it far too much and all got a bit bored.

I know there are other games in that series but I'd quite like to see what other options there are out there.

Strategy aspect and game length was quite nice on the C&C games but it doesn't necessarily have to be along those lines. But definitely more on the slow paced, mouse type games rather than any action stuff. And ideally no farting around with VPN's this time and in an ideal world multi platform so mac and PC users can play at the same time.

Any ideas most welcome.

Probably not the right sort of game, but Helldivers 2 is a lot of fun. Can team up to 4, has built in team voice chat. And you can blow each other up laugh

We re playing a combination of Warhammer Total War and Darktide at the moment. Notable other games we sunk hours as a three / four are Payday 2, World of Tanks, World of Warcraft.
I ll look at my Steam list and add some more! We did try the big fps games like call of duty and battlefield but found them a bit dull.

edit - Borderlands! How did I forget Borderlands? Silly fps that doesn't take itself seriously.

Probably best play online really, locally could lead to loss of friendship or even imprisonment for homicide:

Many thanks folks. I'll do some googling of these this evening and see if any take my fancy. Will report back.

Yup was going to post this. Or when it comes out Battlefield 6 as you can squad up.

Will also recommend Helldivers - mainly because that its inherently a non-serious shooter where accidentally killing each other is part of the fun.

beyond all reason (it's free!) very flexible C&C RTS type game. lots of online/offline game modes. community developed. not yet on steam but can download launcher and play.

Possibly a very different thing than you're looking for, but https://en.boardgamearena.com/ has online versions of loads of popular board games which might be worth a look if you're just after some casual games to play with mates. We have the occasional board games evening with friends in other countries on there and a Teams chat going at the same time.
