Arc Raiders - 3rd person PvEvP extraction shooter
Discussion
Did anyone play the recent tech test for Arc Raiders? Plays very well, sound design is excellent, looks very good and the world seems a bit fleshed out.
Traditionally I'm not a huge fan of extraction shooters, as to me, they can feel a bit 'hacky' sometimes. Ridiculously quick TTK's meaning that there's no chance to fight back if caught out (realistic, yes. Fun? Not really imo), but so far all the gunfights seem fair. There's no uber scoped rifles that can take you out when you're just 1 pixel on someone's screen, TTK seems sensible; quick enough but not laborious like The Division dark zone could be. This is also fun to play solo, unlike other extraction shooters I've played.
The PvE enemies range from very low risk to extremely dangerous, even when kitted out well. They're kind of like a AI robot army that includes drones and ground units. Nothing groundbreaking design wise, but the drones react well to gunfire in that they appear to physically be impacted by rounds etc. Again, sound design is great; bullets whizzing past, AI drones pinging their sirens to alert other units, hearing footsteps of other players nearby etc. It's all really good. Gunfire is loud and bassy, even more indoors, so firefights can be pretty tense.
Anyway, not sure when it's out yet (maybe September apparently), but if they do another test or Beta, worth keeping an eye on I would say.
A lot of people have compared it to Marathon, which I didn't play, and have said Arc Raiders is much more polished and plays much better.

I haven't played it but I am looking forward to it - I do enjoy extraction shooters to some degree, I'm probably one of the few people excited to play Marathon.
Arc Raiders does look promising, I will undoubtedly end up playing it on full release.
I am going to get on full release, I have played an extraction shooter but wanted to give one go. I watched many steams on Marathon and to be honest after all of the build up it looks a bit rubbish,Arc Raiders does look promising, I will undoubtedly end up playing it on full release.

Yes, the first gameplay feedback hasn't been great, but Bungie, for all their faults, have always delivered super tight gameplay so I'll play it myself and make my mind up, unless the general opinion at launch is crushingly negative.I think the biggest hurdle the game faces is the $40 price tag when a lot of people expect this sort of thing to be free to play now.
