Wouldnt use a cordless for gaming!

They've just released some 2000 dpi mice. One by razer, which I can recommend highly as I have one. The other is logitech, which will also be good.

Regarding mats, almost everyone on this page is good:

I have the func 1030, but its a few years old now and I'm sure the others are designed for higher dpi. I've no idea which is "the best" though.

Recently picked up the Logitech MX510 Performance Optical Mouse & Steelpad S&S Bundle from Overclockers, and I'm very happy with it. On special offer at the moment too:

I've been using the MX510 for quite a while, but I've bought a G5 to go with the new PC I'm working on. It looks and feels great, apart from the removal of one of the thumb buttons. I used to use them for some secondary game functions, but I'm sure I'll get used to there being just one - the other features on the G5 more than make up for it I think.

As for mouseing surfaces, I use IceMats (frosted glass mousemats) both at home and office. They are great, but you do have to give them a wipe over to get the dust off each morning. They also seem to wear through the teflon feet on the bottom of the mouse after a while - no biggie, but you do have to get some replacements once every so often. A small price to pay for something lightyears ahead of the bog-standard cloth mousemat.

No problem! If you're interested, you can buy them from here...

www.scan.co.uk/Products/Products.ASP?CatID=23&FilterCategories=351&Thumbnails=yes

I have the black IceMat 2 (larger version) for gaming at home, and a standard-size IceMat for my laptop, which I take to the office. My home mouse is the MX510, and my work mouse an MX1000, so these things appear to work just fine with both optical and laser mice.

IIRC, they come with some teflon tape included, should your mouse feet become worn.

Hey karl.

After Buying the G5 Mouse, The function of 2000 DPI is making the mouse very very tricky so I need a decent mouse mat now !

What a difference from the cordless trackball !

Cheers mate

I have a ratpadz, icemat, Qpad, Corepad and a razer exactmat (got em all free, dont think im a serial mouse buying wierdo) the ratpadz and the exactmat are really good, with the exactmat you can turn it over for speed or control (I never use this though, just use the control side)

my icemat is ok, but it is not as precise as the other two when using a optical mouse.

the Qpad and Corepad, I do not rate really as I prefer a solid mat rather than a foam based os not so solid mat, although there are alot of people out there who prefer these over the solid mat, its down to personal preference.

hope it helps

One word, trackball.

With a middle finger operated trackball (as opposed to the ones where the ball is operated with the thumb) the amount of precision over a mouse is staggering.

To make any movement, only moving one finger is needed - rather than your entire hand and forearm.

I personally swear by them, wouldnt use anything else given the choice.
