Searched to see if this had been mentioned already but couldn't see anything.
Apparently they are remaking the first three Halos using Unreal Engine 5, though not sure if that has been confirmed 100%.
I think the story is supposed to be similar but might be a bit different and with different end points.
The story of those three games (to a lesser extent H2) but with modern graphics and larger scale combat would probably be enough for me to buy the console to play it on.

I would be weary of a remake of the games for sure.
You’re in a catch 22 because if you leave them the way they were then they will feel old (no sprinting ect) and if they change them and make them bigger and different then you run the risk of them not capturing the charm of the originals.

Easy to get wrong I would agreeYou’re in a catch 22 because if you leave them the way they were then they will feel old (no sprinting ect) and if they change them and make them bigger and different then you run the risk of them not capturing the charm of the originals.
When you have a game with a great story though I think it is worth a try and for those who do not want the remade versions they will still have the remastered versions.
This also offers the opportunity to discard what 343 did, along with their already departed executive team, and continue the story from Halo 3.

You can remake old games and make them good. See the C&C and System Shock remakes. True to the source material but modern graphics and controls. You’re in a catch 22 because if you leave them the way they were then they will feel old (no sprinting ect) and if they change them and make them bigger and different then you run the risk of them not capturing the charm of the originals.
However Halo was never that good. It only got a following as a console exclusive, on PC it was an average game for it's time at best. Had it been PC only it wouldn't have been big, had it remained a Mac game no one would even know it existed.

If they want to make them enjoyable then they'll have a hard time writing the flood out of the story.
If you are referring to those repetitive levels with the flood at the mid point, that is part of what a more modern update could address. They had to repeat level design back then as limited development available. That was also why you had to retrace your steps to reuse levels no doubt. JagLover said:

Remember playing the original Halo and really enjoying it. Then I opened this door on the floor and released this annoying enemy with lazy AI for the remaining half of the game and the following two games.captain_cynic said:

Truth hurts. It wasn't a good game. It came out a year after Deus.Ex and two years after System Shock 2.
Gameplay wise it was a poor man's version of Half Life.
It really wasn't that good of a game.

They aren’t even comparable. Half Life is great, but its snails pace slow compared to Halo.
The vehicular battles in Halo in particular were absolutely incredible.

The gameplay enjoyment in Halo is FAR above Half Life 1.

Not just that is was like a whole new generation of gaming. They aren’t even comparable. Half Life is great, but its snails pace slow compared to Halo.

I grew up on Doom, Quake and Goldeneye. When you stepped out onto the grass of Halo, no matter how primitive the graphics were looking back, it felt like a whole new world of gaming had opened up AND then you had larger scale battles out in that environment.

Yes, it was the outdoor open environments, vehicular gameplay and AI of the foes that made Halo stand out from other FPS games of the time. I remember taking a day off work to pick up my pre-ordered Xbox plus copy of Halo at midnight on launch day in March 2002 and I was up for nearly 24 hours. Amazing game for its time. Had many a fantastic evening going through the single player campaign in co-op mode with a mate on the Legendary difficulty setting. Challenging but so rewarding on that setting.
I just love Halo:CE (the original). There's a darkness to it, unlike the later games. I enjoyed Halo 2, but I was more excited about the MP (Xbox Live Debut).
Then there was Halo 3 which is when things truly went mainstream with the xbox 360 - honestly I wasn't a fan of the art direction, colours were too bright and saturated. The spartans looked more like power rangers lol - but this was the start of the HD era so I understand why it changed.
Halo reach was ok, but the games after have been meh.
If you want to nerd out on Halo checkout:

I played it so much I honestly couldn’t sleep properly for days afterwards as I kept seeing plasma flashes whenever I closed my eyes. Drove me mad and it’s the only time I knew I’d seriously played a game too much in one go p1stonhead said:

I also think I played Halo CE a bit too much in the early days in the Spring of 2002 and recall seeing in-game effects whenever I closed my eyes. It was just so playable and immersive. One of the greatest video games of all time IMO.Leon R said:

But… have you played it recently?
