Beyond All Reason (free RTS for PC)
Discussion
Thought I'd share this one with the forum! I've been playing a lot of this in recent weeks and it's an absolute blast. 8v8 players is the typical setting of most matches, but you can go right down to 1v1 if needed.
If you're of a certain age like me (ahem) then you fondly remember Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2, Total Annihilation, Civilization, Age of Empires and all the other late 90s/early 2000s PC strategy gems. It was a golden time for the genre, for sure.
Anyway, BAR is made by fans to basically be a version of Total Annihilation but with 20 years of technological and interface-driven updates. It's better than most paid-for games, it's hugely expansive and it's completely free. I'm also yet to experience much lag at all, which is quite impressive for something with so many players and so many units (the unit cap is in the thousands). I bought Supreme Commander a few years ago, which was OK, but this is leagues better. It's still technically a pre-release game, but it works perfectly fine and the updates are pretty regular. They're aiming to go on Steam and the like eventually, but for now you just get it from their website.
Take a look here.
And feel free to hit me up for some games!
