Hi Folks

I am about to finally move house and at long last I will have a man shed/office. I have an old PS3 but want to upgrade to a PS5 (I think). I want a sim racing/rallying set up so need a chair, wheel, pedals etc.

I am only interested in racing and rallying games and I want them on disc rather than streaming.

Is there a particular version of the PS5 is should look at, should I think PS4 too and what race/rally games are recommended?

Is there a racing seat set up worth considering? I have a Logitech wheel and pedals I use on my PS3, will this be compatible with the 5?

I don't have a huge budget so happy to look at used, but if I do that, is ebay better than marketplace, any places to avoid?

Thanks for any advice given, much appreciated.

Brian

:Edited to add wheel brand

I'm not sure quite what you mean here, but if you mean that you'd like to play games offline on your own console note that a lot of games these days require you to be always online irrespective of whether you're playing online multiplayer or single player campaigns where you would think it isn't necessary. Offline play may not be possible or you'll only get a very limited version of the game. This effects Gran Turismo 7, for example: https://www.gamepressure.com/gran-turismo-7/always...

It's getting pretty ubiquitous in the industry, particularly for the bigger, better known 'AAA' games.

PS5 is a massive step up from the PS4 IME, I wouldn't go with the latter if the former is an option.

The PS5 Pro, on the other hand, seems to be tiny incremental improvements for crazy money.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that. I do intend to have internet access but my man shed is away from the house so I will have to sort that first.

It looks like I will go for the PS5 then.

Cheers

Definitely sort out a Cat 5 or Cat 6 wired LAN connection if you can - I have found my wifi to seemingly 'burst' transmit/receive, which is fine if streaming a film as it will grab a chunk and then download some more while the first part is playing, but is terrible for games where a constant stream of information is required to ensure you aren't lagging.

Re the seat, wheel and pedals....

I have a Logitech G920 (I believe the PS version is the G29?) and it it was originally for 360 but compatible with newest gen. I presume the PS version will be the same if that's the one you have...

I used a playseat challenge seat, which is a bit like a reclined fold-up camping chair but with a mount for the wheel, pedals and shifter. Comfy enough for a few hours here and there and can be folded up with the wheel etc attached still - worth a look.
