And if Ubisoft cherry picked scenes to show the game off, what is the rest of it like. biggrin

A group of white French Canadians use the fan fiction of a discredited professor to rewrite a nation's history, which results in a trailer where a large black man walks around murdering the locals to a hip hop soundtrack whilst people bow to him. Not hard to see why a lot of Japanese people are rather upset by it.

And all the previous Assassin's Creed games have been such paragons of historical and cultural accuracy! hehe

They knew exactly what they were doing, I just don't know why they - as a group - decided it was a good idea. I guess they decided that all publiclicity is good publicity.

True! biglaugh

I'm very meh about all the fuss. I've still preordered the collector's edition to go with all the others I have. There's way to much hand-wringing going on these days. If I blacklisted all the companies that did stuff I objected to, I'd have no one left to buy from.

It's the company's decision making process that slightly fascinates me.

They had a simple path to follow i.e. make the main character in a Samauri based game Japanese. Or, do something that risks annoying and alienating(sic) a significant part of the game's players.

So, what do they do?

The fools deserve all that's coming. hehe

They are a bunch of dipsts and deserve all the abuse they are getting. From The Crew 1 to "oh we're making the sttier sequels with offline mode, we hear you" to Outbores & Skull & Bones being awful they have a contempt for the consumer who "should get comfortable not owning their games".

I was really looking forward to one set in Japan given that Ubisoft had four historians to make Mirage correct they just took the lazy way out and it's now biting them in the arse.

Ubisoft have been complaining that it's just westerners complaining and point to a Japanese editor to defend the game, this editor worked for Ubisoft and the st is hitting the fan even more. There are also lots of Japanese youtube channels ridiculing Ubisoft, songs have even been made.

Although in all the previous AC games you played a fictional character who was the ethnicity you would have expected in that time period, when you start using a very minor historic figure and changing him to be something he wasn't you're on shaky ground. The Japanese do tend to be rather protective of their history and culture as well.

This deserves to flop but AC/Ubisoft customers have shown themselves to be pretty dim in the past so I'm sure there will still be some of them lining up to lap this turd of a game up.

Your choice obviously but, when so many games are broken at release I'm not sure why anyone would "pre-order" any game any more. Hope it goes well for you!

If you don't pre-order you've no chance of getting all the quality tat that comes with the collector's edition wink

Ubisoft are not exactly looking financially stable right now - yet another big flop (or even underperformer) coming out could finish them off. Great job, Ubi! biggrin

With the general 'pulling back' of an industry that expanded way too fast and too much, looks like the pendulum has finally swung in gaming .. Studios/devs that insist on squeezing out woke turds are now facing the real world consequences of not actually making things that customers want to buy.

Think we're only at the beginning of the swing really, with the potential of it stopping. There are lots of studios' still making money churning out the usual dross. I'd be worried about studios closing down reducing competition, if there's only EA, Activision and Embracer then gaming is royally fked regardless of who picks up the ip's. There's a need for competition and it's not good where it's heading, even Microsoft making overtures about stopping hardware production is bad and I'm a big Sony fan boy.

"Ubisoft Pulls Out of Tokyo Game Show, Cancels Press Previews of Assassin’s Creed Shadows"

https://wccftech.com/ubisoft-pulls-out-of-tokyo-ga...

Lots of work to be be done removing things they don't have permission to use and fixing others, oh no wait it's Ubisoft they will probably call the Japanese racists and ignore them instead.
