Price will be 700 quid in the UK, picture doesn't show Optical drive so that will be about 90 quid extra I think if you want to add one (which I'm assuming you can, like PS5 Slim).

Given that basically what you get is just more graphical power so you can essentially have 'Visuals Mode' type graphics with 'Performance Mode' framerates, I can't say I'm too enthused about handing over any cash. I already don't really use my PS5 much so I can't see that I would use this any more.

If VR was still a thing with Sony, they could push it as a much enhanced way to play PSVR2 but that doesn't appear to be on their roadmap. Maybe some VR titles will be updated though.

Price is the killer ... I had though 600 quid (with disc drive) would be pretty much the max they could realistically ask with 550 quid being better and basically asking £100 premium over PS5 Slim but £700 with no Optical Drive is just ludicrous.

And I bet they will sell out and end up at silly money on the secondary market immediately.

Does seem quite a jump for a mid life upgrade. I can't quite remember the original price of the PS5. I think it was about £500 for the optical driver version?

Of course they will.

They've already increased the price of the regular PS5 in Japan as well. Anyone remember the olden days where consoles used to get cheaper throughout their lifespan?

Not sure what to think of that, i may have been interested if they had included some VR enhancements (GT7 especially) but no mention of that as yet. It seems like a significant cost for not a lot of extra grunt.
I jumped on the PS4 Pro at launch and after selling my PS4 i think it cost me about ~£150 to upgrade. This time round i would maybe get £300 for the PS5, so looking at nearly £500 extra for the Pro with a disc drive!

I've never bought a midterm console but, with the state of the games available (seems a very dull gen to me), surely that's a pretty niche product at £700? What sort of proportion do the midterm consoles usually sell vs. the regular version?

I think the PS4 Pro did pretty well - that's what convinced me to jump onboard the PS4 bandwagon.

I got a PS5 Slim when it was released but these days, I'm playing my PS3 more and more. It has some gaming greats, still looks decent (really sharp on a 4k OLED even) and is a great Blu Ray player.

Sony is also reeling from Concord, which is possibly the biggest financial disaster in gaming history (8 years and $200 million to make, lasted 15 days before being shut down). At least with digital games they won't have to bury them in a New Mexico landfill.

Ouch that’s steep. I think it’ll be a no form me unless they can demonstrate some significant improvements particularly with VR.

I was waiting for this expecting a reasonable increase in price but this is too much, nearly £800 when you add in the disc drive and it's just not worth it. Will get a regular one when GTAVI comes out and continue with my retro setup I'm making along with an old CRT to play all my PS2 games.

4K at 60fps was meant to be the standard for this console generation but here we are, 4 years in, with the Series X sometimes not managing this and the PS5 rarely, if ever managing it and even then only with chequerboard upscaling. Now there's a new PS, to try and make good on the promise of performance and visual quality, for the princely sum of £700.

If Sony had some amazing IPs and knew how to use them it would make a bit more sense but the age of killer exclusives is now over with a lot of exclusives being pretty naff on the both the Xbox and PS, not to mention Sony is already bringing their stuff to PC so you can play the rare gems like Ghost of Tsushima. Xbox seem to be moving towards being a global publisher and not having console exclusives so expect to see their stuff coming to PC too.

I think Sony have misjudged this. I hope the Snoys see this for what it is, an attempt to get even more money from them for a device which may be able to deliver the kind of performance that was talked about years ago for the PS5 and which Xbox owners have been enjoying throughout this generation.

I think the lack of an optical drive is an overblown issue, console gamers do seem to be very attached to physical media but PC gamers seem to have left all this stuff behind.

In the end, PC gaming just ends up looking more and more attractive. I probably do 75% of my gaming on PC now, maybe more, with the Series X and PS5 only being used for couch gaming. PC gaming is not without its own foibles, but this current gen of consoles has just been such a dud.

That's a no from me due to price and no disc drive.
It's quite handy buying used ps4 games cheap and getting the free ps5 upgrade.
If it was / ever is £200 cost to change with a disc drive I'd definitely get one.

Was only ever going to be interested in this if there were significant improvements to PSVR2 in GT7. Otherwise, not worth it for me at half the price.

Now that PSVR2 works with PC, albeit without eye tracking, I'm closer and closer to sacrificing all of the convenience of a console and going back to Assetto Corsa on PC as there's so many cars and tracks I dearly miss.

Looks pricey, especially when it is cheaper in US. I would only buy this PS5 for the TDU Solar Crown game

A no from me. Current PS5 will be my last console. Barely play it as it is. Bought Wukong, thinking I could rekindle my love for games again but I've barely touched it. I'll finish it eventually but I think that's me done with games which is crazy when 10yrs ago I'd spend hundreds of hours playing games. Now I've got no motivation to.

I moved from PS4 to PC, and never replaced it.

When GTA 6 comes out I'd buy the best spec at the time, so I will probably be in the market for this.

£700 is a bit steep though!!

Its a no from me. Parity with the dollar tax included is just money grabbing from Sony so they can go swivel.
The ps5 still doesn’t have a standout game that would make me buy one so I’ll stick with my modded ps4.
