Civilization VII
Discussion
Anyone else a Civ player here?
I've played every version since the original back on the Amiga 500 and I have a terrifying number of hours into Civ VI.

I'm really looking forward to the release of this, and I think I may well upgrade my gaming PC for a better experience, Civ VI can get a little slow towards the end game, and there looks to be a lot going on in the new one.

Been playing Civ since the original, and over the years think I've played all versions and spin-offs. I think Civ IV was peak for me, the later versions went a bit "cartoony", plus time and hardware constraints meant I had less time and enthusiasm for them. However, the trailer for VII looks very promising, I've been putting off a new PC for a long time, but this might finally tip me over the edge and look to upgrade.
Just a shame no matter what they do, it will never recapture that feeling from my first playthrough on the original. Muddling through, every uncovered map square was something new, there was an element of magic with every building or wonder, poring over the civopedia to decide what to build next. Who to go to war with, how to go to war, and what would happen. Utter brilliance, probably one of my best gaming experiences ever.

Couldn't agree more. I still play Civ IV on a regular basis, in the last 15 0odd years since Beyond the Sword was released there has been nothing else like it.
Civ V was such a disappointment that I never bothered with Civ VI. I can't say I'm excited for Civ VII.
The sad thing is, all the competitors (Humankind, Millennium) have been equally disappointing.

Still playing Civ IV and couldn't get on with V or VI here too. I think you could also say much the same about the rest of Sid Meier's portfolio, Railroad Tycoon and Sim City have chased graphics over game play and on most normal machines, or the ones I have had anyway, the graphics need to be dialled down so much a 20 year old game looks better. I'd read that Sid Maier had largely retired from the Civ projects before 4 had started. The lead designer was a man named Soren Johnson. Not to belittle Sid Meier's contribution to the series but I think Johnson does not get the recognition he deserves. Civ IV deserves to be put on a plinth.
I don't think Soren Johnson worked on 5.
