GT4 - Need advice - Sorry numpty question.

We have two consoles, two logitech wheels, two TVs.
How do I set this up so I can race against a mate?

I believe, you will need network adaptors on both consoles, and an ethernet cable to connect them.

I thought I might have just needed a cable to connect them both?

You can link PS2's with an i-Link cable, but I'm not sure if this works with GT4.

I-Link cables are no longer availiable.

You'll need the network setup already mentioned.

Why the cables no longer? I have an "old" PS2 the large model not slim line. So to refresh I will need network adapter for each console and a cable to link them both?

If you have the old larger PS2, then yes, you need network adaptors for each PS2, like this one.
The network adaptor comes with a short ethernet cable in the box, about 1m.
