It is very frustrating, I'm sure Sony do it on purpose to build mania for the christmas market.
Apparently, Tesco have an excel sheet allowing you to check whether your local store has one.

Thanks thats a very good link - but there are no stores local to me on there which is a shame. Arcadia are sold out too
It really bugs me when companies limit supply on purpose, tbh ill get to the point where the temptation will pass and ill spend the £300 on something else
Argos still had a few left last time I checked. Don't know if they still do though

Not one highstreet retailer in the west or east yorks area has a PSP in stock - bloody ridiculous, grrrr
FFS how hard can it be for Sony to supply retailers with enough of the little buggers.
I am annoyed!
ps, anyone know where I can get one, quickly (and not an internet store, thanks!)
Where abouts are you based in Yorks. The company that I work for(carphone warehouse) is selling them out of some of the larger stores. I work for property so could drop you a list of the bigger stores in your area that may stock it.
Try these CPW's
Leeds Briggate 0113 244 4426
Leeds Whiterose shopping centre 01132 725 400
Sheffield Meadowhall 0114 256 9031
These are probably the biggest in your area, especially Briggate. It's pretty popular so if they don't have it ask them to check the system, they will be able to find a store that will have some left and reserve it.

I got mine on Sunday and it must have been the last one in the East Midlands! Spent ages checking to see who had one in stock but everyone has sold out except Argos in Mansfield who had one left! Reserved it on their website and went to collect expecting it not to be there when I arrived - but it was!
Game in Nottingham had a sign in the window at lunchtime saying they had very limited stock just arrived in today. Probably all gone by now though otherwise I could have grabbed one for you

I got mine, on spec - yesterday from comet.
I asked the day before if they had any, and was told that there were two instock but reserved. So, the next day I went back and said "well, it's been a week after the launch so surely everyone who pre-ordered one would have picked it up by now? I have £200 cash in my pocket now and I'm willing to spend it" (puts cash on counter)
The lass behind the counter said they were not reserved for customers, but reserved incase of any problems with preordered ones and as such couldn't be sold, although she eyeballed my £200 and said "I'll go and ask the manager". She came back, said "it's your lucky day" and I got a PSP, complete with £100 worth of vouchers, a hardcase/usb cable/odds n sods pack, toca race driver 2, luminies and spiderman 2 for £219.99 (I put the other £20 on the plastic).
It's worth asking all your local retailers as I have been told that some do keep one or two back incase of problems. (mine is 100% brand new, had all seals intact etc) Plus, the next shipment of PSP's is allegedly coming on the 14th Sept so it's not *that* long to wait if you do have to...
Best of luck finding one though

How long ago did you pre-order?
I didnt - I dont think you should have to & the guy in Dixons said they cant even meet pre-orders at the moment - so I would have been in the exact same situation I am in now, except for being 10 or twenty squids poorer.
There's the problem, you see? You might not think you have to, but when a highly anticipated console is released, you cant just expect to wander into a shop and get one. Demand simply outstrips supply.
Next time you want a newly released console, I suggest you pre-order about 3 months in advance.
By the way, it's worth it. A mate of mine imported one from Hong Kong back in January, with Ridge Racer and Poyopop Fever. Believe me, it's a fantastic piece of kit with an unfeisably large screen. I wouldn't be surprised to see GPS/sat-nav and internet applications launched for it soon.

I would say try your local branch of GAME, as i know last weekend when i was in town they said they had at least 3 PSP's left from pre-orders that hadnt been collected (they were only giving people till the saturday to collect and purchase their pre-orders)
Luckily i got mine on Launch day, but then i did pre-order about 2-3 months prior. Highly advisable if you desperately want one when they're released, especially with a console with such a big anticipation. I believe most shops are sold out till their next stock allocation at the end of the month, although there are still a few shops that have a small amount of stock remaining.

I bought mine from Dixons on launch day, without having pre-ordered, there's a store on my route to work so I just popped in and bought one in the morning.
Actually I had pre-ordered from GAME, but I was told I wouldn't be in the first batch. When they called me on Wednesday to say I could go and pick one up, I was told I would have to buy the £400 package deal they had. My response was along the lines of "f**k right off".
Bit naive to expect everywhere to have them, it's the biggest console launch ever AFAIK! Even if Sony have loads of them stockpiled the sheer logistics of getting them into the shops will mean a lot of places will be sold out.

I got mine on launch day too. Wondered into Currys on the way home not really expecting them to have any but interested to see one if it was on display. Walked out 10 min later £200 lighter and clutching a new toy.
I work in Penzance and have a theory. Its a smallish town with a high population of oldies and poor people, not really known as a shopping centre. When it comes to expensive toys the local shops dont shift a fraction of what those in more popular shopping centres would, but still seem to recieve an allocation. Last year I got a PDA satnav system that dixons/pcworld ect were doing a great deal on. But there were none in stock either in Plymouth, Truro or online.. Wondered into Penzance Dixons and they 2. Also had loads of rediculous bargains when they have their stock clearouts.
