I have a Japanese PSP with 1.50 firmware, which everyone says is the one to have.

It now seems that the crafty chaps at Sony are releasing games which only work on the later verions.

So, if I upgrade to 2.0 (or whatever) what exactly am I losing/gaining?

I have a few movies and would like to watch ripped DVDs on the memory stick - not really got round to doing it. I'm not too fussed about using the emulators. I have heard about 'Eval' games being available, but haven't got any (don't know what to do or where to get them from).

So, what's the score??

1.5 is really for people who want to make up their own software and for using emualtors. If you're not that bothered about doing that then u might as well upgrade to 2.0. At least that way you can get a proper internet browser.

2.0 comes with a better set of software - you can set your own backgrounds, get onto the web, and a few other things quite easy.

What you can't do is run software off the memory sitck that bods have made in their bedrooms. This includes the emulators, and some apps (there is a web browser).

The only reason I want to keep mine on 1.5 is to make software for the PSP, if it wasn't for that, I'd upgrade.

Surely the homemade software will start to come out on the 2.0 anyway? Or am I missing something?

Looks like I might as well upgrade

anything over v1.50 won't be able to run the home made programs or iso's as sony required the psp to use signed executables in v1.51 and up, so 1.51, 1.52 and 2.0 are a no-go for using home made stuff...

people are working on downgraders but they will probably turn the psp into a house-brick so it's a case of chancing a £200 piece of hardware to use buggy apps, or just buying the psp games and using it as sony intended it to be used.
