I've got a fairly basic wheel/seat set up and a PS5. I've spent pretty much all of my time practicing Goodwood on GT7, but given my Corvette is too loud for WOT at Goodwood, I'd be keen to try and get good at Silverstone before committing big money to take it there.

GT7 doesn't have Silverstone so what game is considered the most realistic to actually get some good virtual practice?

Others will correct me, but I think Asseto Corsa is considered one of the more realistic simulations available on console, but I don't think they'll have your car as the version available on the PS5 is very GT car focused.

Ahh yes that's the game that came up when Googling. I'll check out their list of cars then, getting to know it in something would be better than nothing I guess.

Looks like they've got my car, albeit the Stingray not the Z06, so that'll do

Maybe I spoke too soon, the latest game doesn't seem to have one. Hmmm.

My pet peeve of GT7 is that it doesn't have Silverstone or CotA!

Another vote for Project Cars 2 (don't get 3). It's a PS4 game but has a great selection of tracks. Including Silverstone it's also got Cadwell, Brands Hatch, Donington Park, Knockhill, Lydden Hill, Snetterton and Oulton Park.

And it also has the C7 Z06

Interesting......might be a good shout. I assume it's still pretty realistic despite being a bit old now?

Assetto Corsa is the better sim, but if you just want to learn the track Project Cars 2 is really good and the base game is miles better graphically than Assetto Corsa.

Yeah I think I'd just use it pretty much exclusively for Silverstone. GT7 ticks the box for anything else I reckon.

Just got this £14 on Ebay. IGN review 9.2/10, sounds like I'm onto a winner.

Very limited options on PS5 sadly, but for learning tracks VR is a significant help as you get an actual natural 'feel' for the size / shape / cambers / elevations (not a problem at Silverstone!!) / distances / speeds and so on that you simply cannot get on a flat screen.

The Nurburgring in VR is a very different track to on a flat screen, the elevation changes and so on are unbelievable.

I do keep meaning to buy the PS VR but every month annoying unexpected costs come up which stop me dropping £500 on one

Yes it is good, I still use it with my mates in an online racing league. One of it's strong points are the amount of cars available but also the configuration within them. You get loads of info in the setup screens but also there is a 'Race Engineer' option which allows you to have 'conversations' about handling/performance & setup suggestions are made based on those. I don't know why other games haven't adopted this because it makes it so much more accessible & you don't need a PHD to configure the setup.

I always considered playing Assetto Corsa, but the track & car selection vs PC2 is quite limiting - this is based on the base game.

I had a piqued interest in AC on PC when I saw the Tokyo mod videos, but my PC isn't powerful enough to play it sadly.

I invested in the development of Project CARS. It was done by Slightly Mad Studios who were the same guys who had did Need for Speed Shift.

Project CARS was used by the ESL in professional gaming competition from 2015 to 2018 so I think you'll be fine

I would actually think watching online laps of any venue is a far better way of learning it. There are plenty around from all sorts of levels.

Project cars is fine for learning where tracks go and has Silverstone on it.

Don't get hung up on car control or specific car types with games, unless you're using a proper simulator it rarely translates to anything meaningful.

All I ever found games useful for was learning a general layout before I went to a track, but I don't even bother with that anymore.
