I would class myself as a pretty seasoned rpg player but I have to admit I’m feeling a bit out of my depth with this one.
I’m 10 hours in and have decided to start again as I just didn’t seem to be getting anywhere !
Anyone have any beginner tips ? I’ve had a trawl round but everyone seems to assume your on the 3rd play through or seem to be speaking a different language lol !

I managed to get quite far, to the main second area but there were some fights that I had no idea how to win and it was either luck or I had to load a prev save game and dodge the fight entirely. I have one of the walking dead skeleton guys on my team and I have to feed him poison to heal him but man he just gets slayed all the time in fights. Far from an easy game though at times when things are going well, it is immensely satisfying.

Cheers I’ll have a look later now 4 hrs in on 2nd go and feeling a bit more comfortable.
Plays superbly on Steam Deck and pc but cross save to iPad is also great !
Planning playing on iPad on way to Canaries week after next
Some of the early fights if I recall correctly should not be taken until you have improved your character or skill .Plays superbly on Steam Deck and pc but cross save to iPad is also great !

first one felt much the same but a bit toned down in scale and so on. Again, I got on okay ish at the start, got to the starting town after the beach scenes and then headed out into the wilds. Did okay, died a lot, then just lost interest due to how hard the combat was, the fact I didn't have all the right kit and so on.
Probably would have been better to start again and not waste so much important stuff before I really needed it.

I got into this a few years ago. Tis a great game and worth persevering for the narration of the sex scene in later acts alone; mine was a touching gay joining of a lizard and a skeleton. How the voice actor got through with a straight face I will never know.
My tip. I was frustrated until I had the advice to focus on physical or magic, but not both. If you go for both then you are essentially trying to whittle down two health bars.
Second tip, teleportation rules. You can move enemies and split them, dump barrels, move objects etc etc.

OMG !!! I never thought about teleporting enemies !! Mopping up at Fort Joy at mo characters at level 5 really getting into it.My tip. I've been playing this on Switch for a few days - just got to the swamps and despite some frustrating fights (the docks!) I'm really enjoying it. The issue with combat is if you do not plan at all and just rush in, you'll just get mullered. As soon as I started to place my squad and plan their actions the tables started to turn a bit. I regret not grabbing a ranger (he died in an early scrap as an NPC) as they seem to really dominate in the early game.
It's crashed once on the Switch due to too many particle effects, I had major slow down and then a crash but it runs okay, not the most visually pleasing experience but the ability to play on the sofa is a bonus!
Going to finish this before starting BG3 I think.

Now 47hrs in and I must be close to finishing the first act ? Just killed Radeka it's pulled me in like no game in recent memory.
It's so handy having it on the Deck but I also managed a few hours on the iPad on hols.
Also have the first one would I be disappointed after playing this ? I did try it years ago but lost interest after a few hours. I also have BG3 in the wings as well.

Nice!
Really enjoyed it and was the first RPG of that sort I'd played in a very long time.
I got all the way to the last act and gave in as there was what seemed a huge jump in difficulty, so would say make sure you don't hurry your way through to it and make sure you level up as much as you can.
I wasn't alone in finding that from a search on Reddit etc.

Playing coop lone wolf with my wife at the moment - fort joy was super difficult and it didn't do much explanation of the systems. Couple fights we could only win by cheesing it (the witch and the last battle) - kill one enemy and leave the battle and repeat.
By the second big map it's starting to make more sense - focused too much on a physical magic+class at the start which doesn't work. Still have some battles where we need to reload and setup our equipment and skills to be able to beat it but we're both magic users which I think makes it a bit tougher too.
It still feels a bit trial and error though - and have to do more reloading than any modern game I've played. Summon a demon and get the answer wrong - die, walk into the wrong area - die, try have sex with a lizard - die
