I’m not much of a gamer personally, a little dabble in Forza 4 and 5 and also MS Flight Sim…mainly due to not having the time to play.

My lad and I have an Xbox Series X and a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, and I’m looking for some age appropriate games for a 7/8 year old that is going to expand his horizons on from doing endless donuts and crashes in Forza!

It doesn’t have to be fully “educational” as such (although that would be good) but something that gets him to use his brain, solve problems, “read” things to progress etc, would be great.

He loves Roblox (on my phone) and Minecraft (on his tablet) but unless I’m missing something you’re just running around, it all just seems a bit mindless…

Any suggestions gratefully received…thanks in advance.

+1 for Lego games.

My son (9yo) mostly plays Fortnite. We have 3 Lego games, they're certainly not educational, but do require some thinking and logic to pass on to the next level/scene.

My son is 11 and he happily roams lego City having completed it years ago. He's just not interested in any linear games or completing things, he just like to drive around in Forza. Not completing anything. Drives me potty biggrin

I think that some kids just prefer different elements of gaming and not doing what the game tells them to do. Which is not necessarily a bad thing.

Minecraft is a good option as it allows creativity and it's nowadays so much more than a solitary thing. Get it on Xbox and open up Realms so he can play online- its amazing what its become now.

I'm not much of a gamer myself these days but enjoy a bit of co-op with my son, similar age. Games included Human Fall Flat and It Takes Two.

My nephews love Castle Crashers, not on GP but can still be picked up cheap. Also the sandbox mode in Cites Skylines, TMNT Shredder's Revenge, the original Doom games and SW Battlefront playing against bots.

Seconded. Great game to play with a pre-teen.
