Gran Turismo 7
Discussion
I'm thinking of getting a PS5, solely to play Gran Turismo 7.
Am I better off with the digital or disc version of the PS5?
Also, I noticed since Gran Turismo 4/5, cars no longer sounded like they do in real life.
If you listen to the Zonda and SL55 in Tokyo Concept, they sound like the real thing, whereas later GT games the sound lost their realism.
I thought the whole point of a simulator is to simulate the sound, and GT4/5 onwards have mostly failed to do that.
But maybe GT7 is loads better? I'm eager to find out.

I bought a PS5 to play GT7 and whilst the console is amazing (get the disk version), GT7 isn't a patch on A Spec that I had on my PS2 (I think).
You can't just buy a car and use it in lots of races. You are forced to do Cup A, Cup B, Cup C in a very linear fashion, each requiring a specific car.
I haven't played it for ages and don't think I will again.
Deathloop and the Harry Potter game are both great though.

A Spec on PS2 was truly groundbreaking. Ah that sounds very rigid, I used to love that you had your own tuning garage. GT7 sounds very 'motorsport'.You can't just buy a car and use it in lots of races. You are forced to do Cup A, Cup B, Cup C in a very linear fashion, each requiring a specific car.

Fond memories of many late nights with my best mate, buying an old A70 Supra or GTO-MR, doing several sunday club competitions to earn money, and slowly turning our $9,000 second hand car into a fully spec'd up 800BHP monster, facing down crazy stuff like the Calsonic Skyline and Toms Supra in the big championships
Main thread is here GT7.
While linear I wouldn't say it's a straight jacket in terms of cars, it's very much in the GT form of "4WD championship" or "Japanese turbo cars" etc etc. From playing all but GT6 I'd say 2 & 4 are still the best and why I keep my PS2 plugged in, but then it's not as bad as 5 with it's overbearing PP restrictions forcing you into 1 or 2 car options.
The worst thing about it is the grind for money, fine when I was a student and had all the time in the world but having maybe 30-40mins spare every couple of days means it'll take just short of a month to get the 20mil required for the rarest cars.

Gran Turismo sound has been atrocious since the very start, albeit in the late 90s it was probably as good as it could get, but it's never sounded good.
GT7 is comfortably the best sound wise of the GT series without a doubt, although GT's leaning towards realism means it can often sound flat / dull compared to say Forza which leans more towards exciting / enjoyable audio at the cost of complete realism.
The career mode is frustratingly limiting in many ways, but the customisation is better than ever, the handling is enjoyable, naturally the graphics are excellent.
Personally, I'd get the digital copy simply because you then don't need the disc in, and don't have the noise of the disc drive etc. There is a slim version coming out if you can wait that will likely save you some money / space.
