Xbox Beta begins tonight at 18:00 UK time, I didn’t bother with Vanguard, but enjoyed Cold War (except for crashes and bugs).
MW3 has new maps and a new version of Zombies so I won’t be engaging with the wife and kids for a few months

Tried it last night. Aside from the trip down memory lane (I've been playing is since COD3) its pretty much more of the same innit? Slight fiddling with the gear and buffs/negatives etc its a bunch of old maps rehashed. I'll still buy it as it's my bag and I do enjoy playing it, same way as people keep buying FIFA.
The speed of mantling feels nicer, you can do quite a lot quite smoothly and I used the alternate hip fire thing more than I thought I would, but it's not as it it's a halfway house between hipfire and ADS, its much less accurate than I would expect?

I didn't play the beta but it looks good. It's MW2 with all the improvements that a lot of people were asking for, plus zombies and a developer that might actually listen to the community. Whilst many are complaining it's DLC for MW2 priced as a whole new game, I would agree there's a point there but calling it DLC is pushing it a bit. On the upside, you get the benefit of many of the bundles for MW2 being playable in MW3, all the weapons and camos carry over and there'll be fewer bugs than you get with a whole new launch. I like the fact that it doesn't feel like a years worth of playing has gone straight in the bin as it usually does with CoD
I liked MW2, as witnessed by the 320 hours of playtime I've got in it. I thought the camo grind was good, it's just a shame you can only unlock platinum by weapon class; to go to polyatomic you had to unlock platinum for all weapons. I couldn't imagine grinding out launchers, the riot shield etc. But as it transpires I've almost ended up doing that. After buying the original game i didn't spend any more money on it until....the current season when I bought the black cell battle pass having not bought the battle pass at all since season 1. I've quite enjoyed having it and some of the unlocks are good fun. But god knows, finishing the battle pass even with a 20 tier skip headstart is super grindy. As soon as I've finished it, that'll be me done with MW2. So to fill the time I've been doing the longshot platinum grind. I think I only had 9 platinum weapons at the start of the season and I'm now up to 34.

Quite enjoyed the beta surprised I remembered so many layouts of the old maps they rejigged.
Its weird how your brain works. Take shoot house - I'd been playing it for a week in MW2 when I finally realised it was a reskin and then I sat there thinking.oh yeah, that bit is the same.....just a different layer. DirktheDaring said:
I went to grab an hour or two last night but discovered a 50GB patch, that’s about 3 hours where I live.
That would be about 9-10 hours for me. I bought one of these but have never downloaded it as it's over 200 sodding gb and has multi gb updates on a constant basis. I'd have to decide I wanted to play it about 2-3 days in advance.
Dunno how gaming ended up so unwieldy.
Yep, playing lots of MP and had a couple of games of Zombies, really enjoying it.
Completed the single campaign on hardcore and working through veteran, it’s a bit short but not as short as the YouTube pro’s are making out.
Pro players racing through it on normal difficulty and then complaining it’s too short

Had a go last night and really enjoyed it. I ended up playing a lot of MWII and this is much the same just with loads of tweaks and improvements. I haven't played OG MW2 since 2010 so for the most part I'd forgotten all the maps and they still felt fairly fresh. I'm not entirely sold on the new armoury system. Sure, it means you can unlock whatever matters most to you first (dead silence in my case), but it looks like a real grind to unlock everything unless you keep dipping in and out of zombies to unlock the guns.
What i really like is that the camo grind from MWII can be completed in MW3. I'd just got my first polyatomic camo when MW3 released, so i'd be tempted to go through and get Orion. Given the time I've spent playing CoD over the years it would be nice to have at least 1 top level mastery camo to show for it
With regards to the comments above about playing the higher levels, I wonder if the SBMM system takes into account total hours played by your account across all games it's been used for? Because i'd much rather play a lobby of level 40 people who've only played CoD for 10 hours in their entire life than lobbies full of level 1 people with 500hours in MWII, incredible game sense and perfect aim!

SBMM works fine for me, win some and get a harder lobby, lose some and get an easier lobby.
It’s always the sweats and the try-hards that whine about it, they don’t like it when they get put into a hard lobby, they want to slaughter noobs to massage their ego’s.
I managed to make a bit of progress on Zombies last night, got some missions completed and an exfil at the end.
Robotron70 is my Xbox Gamertag and Coin Slot on CoD if anybody wants to buddy up.
