Steam crashes hte PC constantly?

Ok, gaming PC arrived and was set up. Steam was downloaded and installed. Unlocked titles. BUT when I am trying to download (only one currently) the PC just crashes every few minutes, sometimes in seconds. Anyone know how to stop this?

It was an error code that said drivers are not valid. So strange.
Oddly there was a long thread on steam (used the laptop) and a chap said to change the MSCONFIG file re: CPUs and I did that, fingers crossed it is now downloading starfield. Has not crashed for 30 minutes (before it was 2-3 minutes tops)

Excellent ! I know the crashing feeling well !! Memories of spending days swapping components hoping beyond hope that its not a MB fault ... Well the thing is this is a brand new PC, literally out of the box this morning. Installed steam and crash city. I have spent half the afternoon looking at various things but a lot is about invalid drivers, out of date this and that etc but as said, the damn thing was spanking new this morning and I had just created my account etc. So I could not see those things working, but this fellow on Steam in the community has said something many websites etc do not mention (oh I had deleted steam and reinstalled too just to be safe) and so far all seems well. If it was a pre-built from a reputable company let them resolve, but on first reading sounds like a driver update is required for a hardware device, unrelated to Steam.
Can you post up a photo of the error message unless you can take a screenshot (PRINT SCRN) then edit & upload here?
Yes frankly I was going to drive it back to the shop and shove it where the sun doesn't shine !! (The shop is a four hour drive too but I was pretty upset anbd being more than 1k out of pocket and unable to play anything). But I left it running overnight downloading and it is still working this morning (and I am posting on here from it!).Can you post up a photo of the error message unless you can take a screenshot (PRINT SCRN) then edit & upload here?
Had to go into the boot setting and change the number of CPU which was strange (taking the number from the task manager) and that seems to have cured it. No idea how or why, or even how or why it could have been a problem in the first place, but there we go.
You are gimping your PC if you limit the number of processor cores. It's not a permanent solution.
What was the CPU temps when Steam was downloading? Has it been crashing during games at all? Maybe SSD overheating? Mine has a fairly hefty heatsink on it.
Make sure all your drivers are up to date.

Ah you're setting it to the actual number of processor cores, still check the drivers and temps, you shouldn't need to do what you've done.

It was a brand new out of the box gaming PC. I would hope the drivers were up to date...I have now been able to leave it running or 36 hours (to download all my games from steam) whilst also playing Starfield and it has not crashed once...
