6 days in Fallujah
Discussion
It's good but very tough, missions can go sideways in an instant if one guy on the team takes a bullet and the insurgent AI are ruthless. They will pop you through the smallest of holes and from angles you didn't expect.
If you play, be prepared to play in multiplayer with strangers and use a mic. You will struggle to complete anything solo, it's really a squad-based co-op PVE game. Don't be the guy with no mic who ruins it for everyone else!
It is awesome and definitely worth trying but it probably does need fairly modern hardware to run right. The nature of the game (trying to shoot distant targets in cluttered environments) means 4K resolution helps. The game has a lot of cluttered geometry as you pick your way through the ruined Fallujah, lots of light and shadow etc. I can't imagine it being a great experience on a potato rig, Arma III it ain't!

I was going to get it, but read lots of people moaning about the timer? No chance to take your time etc, which some prefer and suggest adds to the reality of the situation, whilst others despise it and are preying for an option to disable / extend it. Not sure if that has been updated.
I did enjoy Insurgency Sandstorm, though. We played missions on that in coop and that too can be brutal! It also has timed missions, but we set up our own server and you can adjust it so there's no massive rush.

Thanks for the replies guys.
I played a lot of Insurgency years ago and got Sandstorm but for some reason never really got into as much as I did Insurgency. I do want to get into a good "adult" co-op FPS and communicating is something I like trying to achieve the objective.
Wondered what people thought about the Steam deck in particular? Clearly it is much cheaper than a decent gaming pc.
Thanks for the replies interesting to read what others think....maybe we can set up a Pistonheads team !

I really like Insurgency: Sandstorm, it's great for a quick fix of semi-tactical shooting, I really like the short TTK which makes it feel realistic to a degree - I can't stand competitive multiplayer games where you are just blasting away at each other for ages before someone goes down. The problem with Sandstorm is that it has been sold to a new publisher and new developer appointed as a caretaker for it, it's widely accepted that they put almost no time and money into the game and as such, the playerbase has dwindled. There's always about 2000 people online so you can always get a game as long as you play the main PVP objective mode, but it does feel like the people who still turn up to play are super hardcore and very, very seasoned at the game, knowing all of the maps and sightlines intimately.I played a lot of Insurgency years ago and got Sandstorm but for some reason never really got into as much as I did Insurgency. Compared that to Payday 2, which is twice as old as Sandstorm (at least!) and has 45,000 players online pretty much any time of the day and you can see the difference dev support can make to a game.
Regarding the Steam Deck, I think they're cool but I wouldn't bother with one for 6 Days in Fallujah. They are equivalent to a low-end PC and a lot of demanding games don't run that well on them. I think they're probably great for playing platformers, deck-builders, 2D Roguelites etc in bed, but probably not great for anything "serious", for want of a better term. I still think about getting a Steam Deck or a ROG Ally and may well pick one up at some point.
In the very least, the shooting mechanics of 6 Days means you need to be fast and accurate with your shots or you'll just get beamed by the insurgents before you can shoot them down. It's not a game I'd want to play with mouse and keyboard, certainly. Also, having a big screen with a high resolution helps a lot!
