Gaming monitor for ps5
Discussion
Hi all, my son would like a gaming monitor for Christmas but I have no idea what I'm really looking at! I used to play my old Nintendo NES on an old black and white tv when I was his age lol! He has said he would like a 27inch monitor but all the different specs are mind blowing. I don't want to go much more than £250.
Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks!

Hi bud.
I purchased this for my PS4 Pro as it has both 4k and HDR which seems impossible to find in a TV this size. This monitor has built-in speakers too which aren't amazing but a good alternative to using headphones all the time/when playing multiplayer on same screen. Also about 50 quid cheaper now than when I bought it.

Hope this helps.

Key point to be aware of. Ps5 only does 1080p or 4k. It doesn't use 1440p or any other resolution.
The best is to go for 4k if you can but whatever you do, don't pay extra above 1080p for a 1440p as the PS5 currently doesn't use it and you get black fat bars either side of the picture. I play my ps5 using a 3840x1600 screen but the picture it is given is just 1080p as its not quite a 4k display. Regardless I am still very happy with my ps5 shoiwng 1080p on this UW screen.
The recommendation in the post above is a good start.
Cheers

That's a 1440p monitor, not 4k/2160p!https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-27GN850-B-Ultragear-Ad...
Not a bad monitor at all though, just not 4k (it's what I'm using with my gaming PC until I can get my hands on a nice 32" OLED or micro-LED 4k monitor).

You are quite right, I recall now my son needed it to be 120Hertz capable so it didn't lag when building in Fortnite - whatever that means haha. Not a bad monitor at all though, just not 4k (it's what I'm using with my gaming PC until I can get my hands on a nice 32" OLED or micro-LED 4k monitor).

Good ones are expensive...but cheap ones are available (from about £350), as long as you're happy with lower specs/performance (i.e. 60Hz, ghosting, poor response times, input lag, poor colours/contrast, poor/fake HDR).4k Screens are still super expensive arent they!
But then, not everyone has £500-£5000 to spend on a 165Hz 4K OLED or Samsung Neo G9

I am not sure I like the idea of £350 being cheap...... But then, not everyone has £500-£5000 to spend on a 165Hz 4K OLED or Samsung Neo G9

Sadly it is a high resolution, high refresh rate monitor. I have recently bought some new monitors and For 4k and 120Hz, that is the price of entry. I use 1440P, 32in monitors in my PC setup.
High res
High Refresh Rate
Cheap.
Pick any 2.
I was looking at a Ps5 monitor and found the same thing. Cheap was £300'ish. Anything less and you'd need to compromise on features although it does depend how picky you are.
If you wanted good picture quality, 4K, 120hz refresh, hdmi 2.1, HDR basically all the bells and whistles with a known brand, you were looking at £500 plus as strangely enough, monitors with all those features combined haven't been out for very long. I decided I'd wait for the early adopter buzz to die down and for prices to normalise. It's not like my current Asus ROG monitor 1440p monitor is awful so I can wait.
