Must admit I've stayed away from the F1 games as previous poor experience with 2001, 2002, etc...
Although I managed to pick up a F1 2004 from ebay for £11. Must admit quite good, although damn hard in career mode.
So does this new F1 2005, play better than the old 2004 version, and if so, in what way...?

To answer all these questions...!
Yes, it is for the PS2.
People keep saying they've had bad experiences with F1 games but I have to say, F1 04 is the only F1 game that made me want to go and get my money back.
Doesn't compare much to GT4 in some ways, but then again they are 2 different types of game. If you're bored of GT4 (as I was) this game is a great alternative.
Obviously the game was finished prior to Indy, as all 20 cars line up on the grid. Another (albeit minor) flaw is that the qualifying is still based on the two sessions with aggregate times.
It has to be said that F1 04 was a good game but was let down majorly by the career mode (which, lets face it, is a major chunk of the game). It was too hard, both getting a drive (always ended up as Minardi's test driver no matter how well I did in the tests) and also in races (constantly 5-6 seconds a lap slower than the front runners).
I think though that they have got it right with F1 05. Firstly, you can set the difficulty level in career. Also, instead of being set test days, you now apply to the teams via your agent, who then arranges a test directly with the team. You may also be headhunted during the game, where teams will contact your agent to ask whether you're interested in driving for them. There are also neat additions such as the Forza Motorsport-style racing line, which tells you not just where you should be on the track but also where your braking/accelerating points should be. There is also steering/brake assists, as well as spin recovery. All of these can be turned off, but its worth keeping the racing line and steering assist on until you get a feel for the cars.
It feels a lot better than 04 when you're diving the cars. They seem a lot more forgiving (and dont lock up every time you touch the brakes).
But hey, its all a matter of opinion. You'll have to play the game to find out.
