Halo 2-last checkpoint

I am trying to complete Halo 2 on legendary level of difficulty.

Frustratingly enough I am stuck on the very last checkpoint, the battle with the Brute chieftain.

I cannot figure out how his shield works, can you overload it by firing at him, or is there a time limit before it goes off?

I was able to complete it on Heroic difficulty without really figuring it out.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ah yes, the final fight before the big let-down anti-climax.

Can't help, I'm afraid. I, like you, didn't really figure it out on the lower difficulties and, unlike you, I haven't bothered playing it through on Legendary.
I did on Halo-1, but can't really summon up the enthusiasm to do it with Halo-2.

Not that I've played it in a while but I seem to remember that every now & agin it will change it's "state" slightly i.e. turn itself off for a few seconds. THAT'S when you need to shoot the bejeezus out of him but unfortunately it involves a lot of running & avoiding.
