First insight into the next Playstation was released yesterday.

See here for more info. Snippets include:

"Out of the box, the PS3 will have the capability to support seven Bluetooth controllers, which can be used for nearly 24 hours before they require charging"

"Polyphony Digital trotted out a fifth Gran Turismo, SCEE showed off the next Killzone, and Rockstar Games showed a new Western title"

"The PlayStation 3 will also sport some hefty multimedia features, such as video chat, Internet access, digital photo viewing, and digital audio and video"

it'll be ready in a years time

There is a video of GT5 at gtplanet.net. Need to be registered to download it.

Looks pretty much the same so far apart from the hugely detailed pits.

Interesting that the new Xbox is estimated to retail at £160.

The PS3 presumably would come it at around the same price.

Thats about half the price of the previous launch prices of the previous PS consoles.

Aren't MS doing 2 versions? An entry-level Xbox which just plays games and a super-pimped-up one with better hardware and capable of a lot more?

They are all launching consoles in the next 12-18 months.

Xbox360
PS3
Nintendo something or other.

A GT5, a new Mario Kart and a new Halo.

Hurrah!

What on earth have they done to the controller? Still, it's good to see Sony concentrating on usability (Bluetooth and USB ports) instead of Microsoft droning on about MHz and processors all day long.

My thoughts entirely. IMHO Sony got it absolutely spot on with the first DualShock controller and it sets the PS way ahead of the competition in terms of usability. I simply cannot get to grips with the XBox or GameCube controllers.

Apart from those bloody screw holes on the underneath. Can't use the PS2 for more than about 20 mins it's so painful.

anyone looked at the specs for the PS3... notice the base processing power is roughly double the xbox360 !?!?

nasty looking controller though.. and the box doesn't look that good, although the black one is much nicer...

I put a couple of fabric plasters over mine with the gauze pads covering the screw hole (only the left one ever caused me any grief). Still need a cure for "Playstation thumb" though!

Have a look at http://ps3.ign.com

Check out some of the videos

Thought the Xbox360 looked good. The PS3 craps all over it from a very very great height !

Will buy both of course

specs: http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614783p1.html

Hi Guys, just a few things a gleamed for other sites in the know ;P

PS3 will likely be very similar in performance to XBox360 in the end. After all there is only about 4 months difference between their release dates. Although I would exprect PS3 to have the edge.

The Gran Turismo Vision, I think was based on GT4, i.e. it's not a true GT5 (I guess they didn't have time for that). Just uped the number of cars, trach detail, textures etc. Says a lot for GT4 I think

£160 XBox360? Not on this planet let alone the UK, not even the cheap version well maybe in a few years ;P

Yeah I too reckon GT5 on the PS3 will actually be nothing more than GT4 - the game itself is amazingly well developed, and while playing I can always feel that the PS2's hardware is letting it down. If GT4 could be run on a PC, with up-to-date hardware, the visual difference would be monumental!

Tumble physics?

Whats that then?

I thought Polyphony wouldnt include crash damage due to agreements with the manufacturers?
