Ebay seem to be allowing it, you seem to get an X-box with hundreds (actually thousands)of games already installed (so no disks required) and the capability of adding new games by renting them and simply installing them on the HD!

For a few hundred quid this sounds pretty good to me if it is legit!

Should it be avoided?

no, completely illegal.

It'll be against the MS TAC that the hardware can't be fiddled with for a start and all the games come with usage guidelines which state they can't be cracked/modified in any way (which is what you do to get them on the HDD).

Ok, but do you reckon it does what it says?

Not that I would buy one if its illegal of course.

I would hate to cost Microsoft a few quid after all...

it'll do exactly what it says on the tin.

Pretty much as soon as the xbox was released there was software developmented that could allow for the copying of games to the 8Gb harddrive, then came along the hardware modifications to put screens/switches/bigger HDD's in.

It's illegal, but it works - a mate of mine has done it to his xBox and it works quite well.

I often get sent to threads in the forum's over here : www.xboxscene.com/ by said mate. The FAQ's are here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=SF&f=23 which tell you all you need to know about if it works or not. http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=176908 as well.

As for the legality, I've heard rumours that MS actually put out the xBox with the intention of letting the crackers/hackers work their magic to see how it's done (the approach), that way with the Xenon they could stop it completely.

Per the ebay ad, ask yourself one question - legally could you buy 50 xbox games and 2k emulated games and sell it for the price offered? The other aspect is Ebay are there to make money

The hard drive is big, but how many games could you actually store on it? Or do you use some kin dof compression software? If not, you could only store a few games on it.
Anyway, if I really appreciate a game, I want to reward the developpers and BUY their game.

I have emailed the guy and he has sent me a list of about 80 recent titles and told me he will install any 50 games of my choice, and 2000, yes 2000! retro games too.

Interesting

You're offered a modded game console chocked full of pirated software titles and you have to ask if it's legal?
