There isn't anything like GT4 on the PC, the closest you get is Need For Speed : Underground 2, but that requires you to bolt on tat and offers limited tweaking of the settings.

apart from the tweaking of settings, there are little similarities - you don't have to earn wonga to buy cars/ do them up etc.

You can't add stuff to the cars either (i.e. turbos and the like)

In short GT4 is an arcade game, GTR is a simulation.

Something like Toca Race driver 2 might fall somewhere in the middle - I loved it when I first got it, but got bored with it as it wasn't expandable...

Agree, an amazing game. Might be a bit difficult to find a lot of the addon stuff now though

but GT4 it is not.

The hook of the Gran Turismo series is completing races to earn money to upgrade your car, buy new cars etc. GTR is a simple case of "you get a race car, you change the settings and race on a limited number of circuits". You can't change your car to gain a competitive edge over others (bar setups).

As FWD said as well, it's a sim, not an arcade game - it's not for everyone.

Try live for speed, you can get a free demo version and the full game is only about £12, quite a lot of people playing it online, only downside is that you have to race hundreds of times before you can afford enough credits for the better cars. It's pretty realistic and not bad work for a small team of coders.

Need For Speed : Underground 2 has street racing.

Toca Race Driver2, GTR, et al are mostly tracks.
