I've seen lots of posts complaining about how easy it is to lap the nurburgring and get silly times, so how about this;

Win an RUF CTR Yellowbird (boxer race in pro events)
Turn off all driver aids
Fit standard economy tyres

Now lap the nurburgring... easy?

Now bow down to the ultimate car control of Stefan Roser
8 mins 15 seconds in a yellowbird!

8'26", then on the next lap turned an early 5s deficit into a 3s second lead (before throwing it all away in spectacular fashion). So I reckon I could get to 8'18".
Economy tyres, no turbo selected (on the setup screen at least, but still getting a boost gauge on the HUD).

would "Standard Road" tyres not be the correct equivelent?

Im half tempted to start a thread with ring times of standard cars (and any requests) on standard road tyres with just an oil change and my leccy aids settings (+8 seems about right for understeer)

Anyone know of a list of real car times??

Nice! I can't get under 9 minutes yet - the thing just throws itself off the track at every opportunity!

The car is turboed as standard, so you don't need to worry about the boost gauge!

A few more runs got it down to 8'24", but the theoretical 8'18" still eludes me.
After many laps of repeatedly throwing it at the scenery, it became apparent that the best technique is to start slow and build up to the limit, rather than start flat-out and work down to the catchable.
There are still a few places that are a bit iffy for me:
  • The jump early on, with a right hander after it - it always either feels to slow, or ends in the wall

  • A little further on, the fast downhill section into the uphill braking zone - sometimes get a wobble on that develops into a full on tank-slapper

  • The fast, slightly meandering bit along the bottom of the valley - I sometimes arrive at the left-hander half way along midway through an oscillation the wrong way

  • The first bit where the track drops away from under you - another bit the either feels to slow or ends in tears

  • The second bit where the track drops away from under you (to a lesser extent) - if you're either in need of, or mid-correction, that can develop into a tank-slapper that lasts all the way to the next slow bend

And finally, don't over do it at the end of the lap - it's better to arrive calmly and a little slowly in the last twidly bit than it is to arrive going backwards at 150mph on the grass!
