I'm am not a happy bunny.

I'm currently attempting to win a FF challenge race on GT4. It's on midfield raceway reverse, and I'm driving '99 Toyota Celica. It has full race suspension, single plate clutch, sports flywheel, 1.5 way LSD, stage 2 weight reduction, soft sports tyres and, most importantly, been tuned to 240 BHP normally aspirated.

I can get second place, no problem. But I just can't win. Why you ask? I cannot, and I mean CANNOT, catch that final car. Big deal you say, you need more practice. However, it ain't that simple....

The car in question is always a '00 Renault Megane 2.0 IDE Coupe. I am driving a 240 BHP Celica with hugely improved handling, and I can't catch a sodding MEGANE????? I really think somebody has screwed up in the simulation of this car. Cos I ain't that useless with a PS2 controller.

Anyone else come across anything like this?

Good point, but there's nothing to indicate they are anything but standard. I would think i'd notice something if it had been modified to that extent. It's also leaving for dust a field of cars that include a Honda Prelude and a Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus.

In GT (since number 2 I believe) the computer will tune the opponents cars accordingly in certain races. If I remember correctly this is usually in the type races (FF,FR,4WD etc) but hardly ever in things like the cup (Sunday cup, Clubman etc).

Come'on, you should enjoy the challenge

Stop messing about and stick a sodding great big Turbo on your Celica. That should do the trick. Mind you, I won that whole series with a 240bhp Integra Type R with standard suspension and brakes. In fact it was completely standard apart from a few bits of engine work to raise the BHP, so it should easily be possible.

The AI automatically changes the cars to make it more of a challenge - ive done the same Capri Rally race several times and with lower powered cars I was up against an Integrale - but when I did it in high powered cars (840bhp Ford GT / 980bhp Dodge Viper) it pitched me against a faster car (Audi Quattro, R5 GTT etc).

I'm not surprised - the Fiat Coupé 20VT+ in GT4 is sh*te - it doesn't even have the right number of gears (has 5 should have 6) and the max speed is waaaay down on what it should be - very disappointing for me....

Yeh that Megane is a right git very galling considering it doesent have a proper engine just a derv lump. I was racing the bugger on arcade last night indeed tho the AI cars are often modified although you have no way of knowing unless you can hack in to the game and check the specs.

ha, you think thats bad, I got my nos'd M5 ass whooped by a pissy little Renault 5 Maxi last night,. I systematically uprated everything engine wise to 650bhp, lowered weight, donned the racing gloves etc. and everytime I went back for more, the lil b@st**d had another 50bhp (at least) on me in that special events section.

I wonder if I was leading for about 3secs and just ripped the playstation from the wall really quickly, would I win by default?

ps. where'd you win the Ford Gt dave ?

You can buy the ford GT road car, from Ford America funnily enough , or you can win the LM spec II (from the intro) in the GT World Championship in the proffesional hall.
You can also win the Classic GT40 Race car from the Laguna Seca 300miles endurance race.

Stupid question perhaps but did you actually change the suspension settings once you had the race setup installed. By default it puts everything back to neutral which generally makes for dog poor handling, this wasn't a problem with any of the previous GTs but they've changed the way it works for GT4.

As for accurate representations? plenty of details that are so far off it is unreal but most of the cars are pretty good provided they are american muscle cars or japanese rice rockets, everything else gets a raw deal

I too did the FF with the white 2nd hand Civic.

On the realism, my 650bhp dodge ram sounded exactly the same as pretty much every other car. It also turned with the accuracy of a sportscar after I'd spent a bit of money on it - not bad for a 2 tonne behemoth.

Yes, I did set up the suspension. In fact, I set it up too hard to begin with and had to soften it. The handling is a VAST improvement over standard, but this bd megane just won't be caught! And I'm a bit loathe to just pile on the power, because it already wheelspins most of it away until you get into 3rd.

And before anyone says it, no I'm not putting on the traction control. It either doesn't help or gets in the way.

There are a lot of inaccuracies for instance the Fireblade model is being heavily debated on Blatchat. The main areas of concern are the fact it seems to bounce of the track all the time and that the brakes are shocking.

Obviously in real life with a weight of 400KG the Caterham Fireblade stops like it has hit a wall even with the standard brakes.

On the plus side their understanding of aerodynamics seems somewhat limited and it is apparently possible to get the Caterham Fireblade up to over 190mph in the game.

Try qualifying first so you start in 1st/2nd spot and have to pass less cars to take the lead.

Small problem. You CAN'T qualify. There is no option for it - and I double checked before posting this. You are stuck with the back of the grid.

Check again. I would tell you how but your response has offended me.

On entering the race I am given the following options:

A-Spec: Drivers Mode
B-Spec: Directors Mode
Settings
Options
Exit

Please tell me which one of these say 'Qualify'?

Selecting either A-Spec or B-Spec puts me straight into the race. At the back of the grid.

In the US version it def has the "practice" option which allows you to qualify. Surely the Euro version should have the same option too.

Nope. Either I've got a fecked copy, or there ain't no practice/qualify mode.
