GT4 - 2 MAJOR gripes
Discussion
I love the GT series and love the new game but for 2 inexcusable problems (though hopefully there is an excuse!)
1. I can not believe that the 'most realistic driving simulator' has no qualifying sessions anymore - I seem to recall the same happened in GT2 - ok so starting from the back is more of a challenge but when you are in a rubbish car, doing a banzai qualie will often mean the difference between second and a win, and qualifying is fun too. I hope this is just because I am in the beginner rounds - I have noticed 'practice' in series races but don't know if this effects grid position.
2. The AI is still awful. I was flat out (90 mph) in my Mitsubishi Minica down an incredibly long straight and a 206 doing about 110 kept closing on me in the mirror, closer and closer, I was halfway down the straight, which was wide enough for about 4 cars, but he just rammed into the back of me, not even an attempt to overtake.
Again, i hope this is just because competitor's driving is supposed to be crap in beginner levels, but even a learner driver knows to steer around someone going slower?
Not happy with these things...

I have so many little issues with this game and as a collective, they spoil an otherwise bliss exerience:
-The AI isn't aware of the you and is the same as GT1, GT2 and GT3
-You can't race your tuned cars is arcade mode
-You can't race on certain tracks in split screen 2 player (for example: El Capitan and New York)
-You can't use the Caterham in 2 player, the game simply plays a BUZZ sound when you try to select it.
-You can't choose from all 50 tracks in LAN play, you have to pre-select 30 favorites from the 50 before you start LAN play. Why?
-Once LAN play is started, you can't return to the main game, so you have to reset the PS2!
-Engine sounds of MR and RR cars are way to quiet
-In the Chinese and Japanese versions, each vehicle had a naration about the car's history that you could listen to in replays, this has been removed.
-No full screen replays in two player mode.
-You can't save 2 player replays and therefore can't take photos of you and your mate racing.
-Even on the 4th itteration of the game, they still haven't balanced the difficulty properly. When you first begin, the racing is close and tough, you have to be very careful and not put a wheel wrong. Nearer the end of the game, it's far to easy, you can race away, crash 5 times a lap and still be in 1st place.
There's loads of other things I could write about, but I can't be arsed

The only thing that bugs me is the lack of engine noise in the RuF's
are you finding this only in the in-car and bonnet views? and just on the 911 based RUF's? and are we talking very little/no engine sound at all? if so i have the same fault!
Other than that, im finding the game really good. the AI is still pretty useless at times.
The only problem now, im starting to get addicted to the ring!
I thought they would have the full race kits to purchase like they did in GT2. That was one of my main inspirations for making money in GT2. it doesn't seem right just maxing everything out.
I shall have to have a think and try and write a review. Overall i would say it's worth the money, more so than the rest of the series.
I was thinking up a list of cars for GT5 today. I hope they do one for the playstation 3.
Still i found the Lotus Carlton

I actually find the GT4 too simular to GT3, whilst driving. There seems to be a bit of spit and polish with the physics and effects, but it all feels to samey to GT3. Especialy on the orignal tracks (to be expected though).
Another thing I found myself thinking, was where was all the 700 cars ? I can see that quite a few new car manufactures have been added, when compared to GT3, but when you go into the car manufacturers, some only seem to have one car model on offer. What happened to all the rest of the manufacturer models ? Perhaps I should play GT4 alot more though, before I critize too much

I've just posted in the other thread.
They all do it, it appears to be universal.
We tried 3 different copies last night and they were all the same.
Mine's fine. all thee RUFs have, albeit crap, engine noise. On a mini PS2 if that makes any odds.
They are all crap on all machines.
We tried 3 different software copies on two different revisions of thick playstations and a thin one and it was the same on all of them.
Its there but a lot quieter than the other cars.
Ferrari and Porsche are in Project Gotham Racing 2 on the xbox so I presume thats the licencing problem.
Comparing GT4 to PGR2 there are 2 major gripes I have.
1) There is very little penalty for cutting corners. One of the tracks in particular you just ignore the chicane and save 10 seconds a lap. In PGR2 if you go on the grass it's like driving in the gravel traps in GT4. It's a real encouragement to keep it on the black stuff.
2) Although the graphics are nicer than GT3 it's limited by the the technology and the graphics in PGR2 are a lot better. I wonder if they'll release a high definition version to go with the PS3?...it would be nice..

I guess my machine is special then because the BTR I'm driving sounds awesome, quite deep and purposefull with a wonderfull "cracking" on the downshifts in perfect time with huge gouts of flame from the exhausts. My current favourite car
Havent tried the newly won Yellow bird yet. But if one works maybe they all will (playing in Dolby II by the way, on an old school large Ps2)
