this months.. page 34.

and they really rate it by the sounds of it too.. quite surprising for a games mag to like it I think.. what with you actually having to drive the car, rather than just floor it everywhere and tap the brake once in a while....

can't wait for the release now!!

many thanks...

very tempted.. do the translation patches really translate it? or is it still a bit dodgy when trying to discern your camber from your castor ??

everything is done, all the text/buttons etc are now in English. Only the text embedded in the track loading screens are still German for me but you can get new English ones for them too, but all the ever say is the name of the circuit and GT Racing series or whatever.

The way I've got mine working perfectly

Install game, create player profile exit game.

Patch v1.1
Patch 1.2
Patch 1.21
Patch 1.2.3
English Translation 1.4
Enlgish Translation 1.4 fix (extra bit missed off last one)
Realistic Brighter headlights
GTR English Pits sounds (pits to car radio samples)

Baring in mind you need to apply the first 4 patches even if you speak and understand German I don't think it's much to get it perfect. Only took maybe 15mins in total

All patched/upgrades from here - www.m4driving.it/files/33,1.html (under Miscellaneous/patches & sound sections)

Extra tracks on there too (24hr Nordschliffe not working) use the other one further down the list (straight GPL conversion) works great.

If you wonder about time to arrive mine arrived one week earlier than Amazon said it would

FWD - Whats the game like then? I've read the reviews and seen the videos and it looks good, but how is it to play?

How would you compare it to GPL?

Difficult to compare with GPL as you don't want to be sliding these big beasts, but it is certainly lots of fun to push hard.

Certainly a good racing game and lots of cars to play around with, I am most impressed with the sound the engine, gearbox whine and also the pops and bangs with the exhausts, oh and if you run a turbo car you get all the orchestra.

I've been playing around with the demo quite a bit.. and have found that whilst the Lister is a "right twitchy bugger" that is really not something to be messed with (i.e. trying to slide it around), the morgan, with some settings adjustments, can be made to drift quite well....

you really lose out on absilute grip, and thus it's much slower, but you can drift it around like this..

it seems to be quite an open architecture, from what I've heard.. so can you make your own cars (i.e. road cars) and set them up just to play around?

I've found the Murcielago to be the twitchiest so far, I like the Lister (I've downloaded the Tiff Needell British GT version too) and if you can tame it, it's very quick. The Corvette and Saleen are quick too but the 550 Maranello seems to have the edge on all of them.

Of the NGT cars I like the GT£ Porsche and the BMW Z3 GT (nice noise)

Here's a TV camera view video of a lap I've just done in the Saleen at Donington. I used a free version of Fraps to capture it which only grabs video in 30s pieces and since this lap was 1m30s it's in 3 bits, you'll see the joins, but hey

6mb WMV right click & save as - www.mercia.biz/gtr/donny1.wmv

Oh and driving Spa at dusk or dawn is fantastic, driving it at night very especially if you have got your monitor or GTR gamma settings too low, I'd also advise turning the room lights off for realism Rain & Monsoon conditions tricky but equally well done.

I got it from amazon.de as well, just after it came out. Its an excellent simulation in my opinion, i've not touched another since.

I really do need a) a new PC and b) a decent wheel and pedals for this. It's about as close to my ideal game as anyone has yet come up with. The video is class by the way, looks and sounds very realistic

Play.com have the release date down as 25th Feb (although this is subject to change), and the price as £25.99 delivered.
