Anyone seen this before?

www.rfactor.net/wip.shtml

It's come out of nowhere but seems great fun, the 'sim level' is about halfway between TOCA2 and GTR. Fictional cars, fictional tracks, plays nicely, looks good and I'm enjoying it immensely.

Go to the download section for the multiplayer demo.

Well, after a few hours play, I have to recommend playing the demo on the website. You can play multiplayer over a LAN with about 20 other cars (AI or human).

Handling seems to be quite good, although the back end of the cars seem to suddenly step out with no warning under acceleration out of tight corners and no matter how much opposite lock you give, they spin... a quick change of the suspension sorted that problem out.

The game seems to have been entirely built for the mod community, so expect plenty of tracks and cars in the future.

The game has a day/night cycle (like Le Mans 24 hours on the Dreamcast), you can watch the sun pass through the sky, the shadows lengthen and the lighting change (although I think the demo stops at about 8pm and doesn't get darker).

There are also a wealth of options, the most I've seen in any racing game, so if you want a (sinle of multiplayer)race with a rolling start, no pace lap, yellow flags, no other flags, 39% damage, no aids for the drivers except traction control and limited stability control, weather changing, time of day changing at 60x normal speed, AI opponents 45% aggressive but with 110% skill etc etc etc the list of options seems almost endless.

Anyway, I'll be buying this when it comes out... shame that it seems to be a long way off, this demo version is 0.65v, so it's no way near finished yet.

editted for spelling mistake... game is build for MOD community not MID... doh

I have just downloaded it and had a play - looks very promising ! Good sounds and graphics... handling as a nightmare on keyboard (as expected) Need to have a go when my wheel arrives though.

It's made by Image Space Incorporated, the same people who brought us the wonderfully "mod-able" Sports Car GT

I haven't been playing on a server, only over an office LAN.

I do agree with the back end problem... it's just something I've become accustomed to over time. My car setup is standard apart from the gearing... whoever set the gears up for the track has never played a racing game before!!

it does get a bit silly sometimes - you go into an apex and put on the power gently and the thing will just swap ends without any warning, maybe its something that will get better when the game gets released..in the mean time i'll fiddle with the setup and if i get something thats any good i'll make it available for you guys

Got to love the in-car sounds though - very TOCA

I saw your game but couldn't get in as you were racing the AI cars..

I'll run one for today called Pistonheads.co.uk and see if it runs ok - if its too laggy then i'll stop the server.

No password on the server

Finally got round to downloading this and the patch. Been testing it

Very promising, although I've had to turn a few things down to keep things smooth. Plus the wheel and cockpit view had to go

I'm using the nose cam which is higher than most so looks good.

If there are any races anyone is hosting or want hosted let me know
