returning games.
Discussion
Just found out that Game will no longer give me a refund on a PC game. i got 2 copys of "the SIMS2" for xmas and i took one back, well my brother took back the copy that he bought for me, and they told him that this can't be taken back (the guy started to waffle on about copying the CD etc etc). But vouchers can be given instead. Is this going against statitory(sp?) rights.
Anyone know where one can buy PC games in the future and take them back for a proper refund if not fully satisfied?
thanks

you can't anymore. Too many people took the michael and all the major retailers simply don't accept game returns.
I'm not sure about statitory rights but I think you'll have to accept the vouchers - it's the best you'll get nowadays.
Oh, and I don't buy games anymore unless I'm damned sure I want/can play them - usually www.play.com are cheap.

Statutory rights only cover you if the CD/DVD is damaged or the game unplayable; then you are entitled to get it fixed. Otherwise, you're not entitled to a refund just because you don't want it.
If you just don't like it, even a swap for vouchers is more than you're legally entitled to so I would take it.
Rules like this do no favours for the game industry when paid online downloading (eg HL2) and illegal P2P downloading is gaining in leaps and bounds

I did the same last year, made the mistake of buying Combat Flight Simulator 3, which never actually worked properly,, stuttering craashing etc, on my 3.6GHz, 1GB of memory and 9800 Pro GPU PC!! PC Wprld refused to have it back, and I still have the badly programmed game in cupboard,,, hey ho,,, at least because of that, I found the vastly superior IL2, and Pacific Fighters, which I can't stop playing!!!!

if the game is faulty you are entitled to a refund
just lie and say that it doesnt work
places i have personally tried and give refunds are:
whsmith, woolies, hmv
agains you have to say its faulty
Doesn't always work. A lot of stores will now swap it for an identical item and not offer you your money back.
Thing is, I'm not too sure a lot of people did take the mick out of stores. I remember reading a few sensationalist stories about it but I don't belive it was ever 'the majority' thing. Most retailers got worried by the masses having CD-R/RW's fitted and bailed, even through the common software given away with these devices (nero) won't copy 90% of game CD's (SecureROM, et al) and your average spod wouldn't know where to go to get different software.
I think the whole GAME thing may be down to me I used to buy the latest game on Friday evening, try it through the weekend and return it Monday. If the game was good I used to buy it from Play at about half the price, if it was pants I waited until next Friday for the next game. It was a great system, personal I think 4 photographs on the back of a box is a terrible way to decide to buy a game, it tells you nothing of the game play, now I generally wait for a sale.
