Alien: Isolation
Discussion
So who is going to be getting this next week?
Looks amazing, very different idea to the usual FPS, you basically don't get any guns and run away...LOTS!
My only worry is how tiresome that will get very quickly, but it looks a refreshing change.
Its also a Single Player experience, so can immerse myself in a story.
Other option is LOTR: Shadow of Mordor as aits a single player with MP bits, as in you can help out others ..sort of...
Need to decide which I am getting this month, poo pants scary, or fantasy RPG....hmmm

I never played any of the AC games oddly, just never got round to it so never jumped on board.
I am probably going for alien over LOTR this month.
Apparently in the edition from game for a few quid more it has the extra missions with the team from the Nostromo with all of them doing the voices bar Ian Holm and Jones the cat (as he be dead ).
These missions include the last bit of Alien where you have to self destruct the Nostromo while the Alien stalks you!
"You now have 10 minutes to reach minimum safe distance....."

Isolation looks pretty awesome. Hopefully people won't get upset that it's not a shooter. It looks a lot more Alien that Aliens, the sound effects in the trailers sound just like the movie which always added to the tension.
From an interview they did, Fox sent over copies of the original sounds recorded for the film, so the sounds are going to be top notch RobGT81 said:
Headphones on, lights out, with that message and the siren ringing out..
Ordered the Ripley edition from Game now, that's the one that has the self destruct mission, NOT the other edition or the normal game. Just to be clear.
Also got our tickets for Alien double bill come Halloween, good times.

Does look great.
My main concern is that it'll have no real replayability. Looks like it relies upon a lot of set piece scares - i.e. encounters occur at preordained times. I'd like to think they've thought of this though, but I'm eternally pessimistic.
I think there will be an element of that, its the nature of the species. However they have said save points are dotted about but they are noisy and can attract the alien, so you can avoid them but you end up going farther back. An example they gave was it may be better to save and die as when you start at that save the alien wont just be waiting there again. My main concern is that it'll have no real replayability. So there is a fair amount of randomisation in how the alien works, or so I have been led to believe.

That sounds rather clever actually. So there is a fair amount of randomisation in how the alien works, or so I have been led to believe.
Wish I knew which version I'm supposed to buy.. hate these "exclusive at retailer X" pre-order bonuses, as it "forces" you to buy into it before you've seen any reviews, and you usually miss out on something if you choose one retailer over another. I mean I'm a pretty big Alien fan (watched the original last night oddly enough), but have been burned on preorders on games that turned out to be crap before.
Which is the "best" version to buy, and from where?

I went for the 'Ripley' edition, it has the 2 extra mission\games where you play as part of the original team (voiced by the original cast!) and there is the one you play as Ellen Ripley in the last 30 minutes of Alien.Wish I knew which version I'm supposed to buy.. hate these "exclusive at retailer X" pre-order bonuses, as it "forces" you to buy into it before you've seen any reviews, and you usually miss out on something if you choose one retailer over another. The 'crew expendable edition only has the mission where you play with the original crew, NOT the Alien ending\self destruct mission. The crew expendable mission is included in the 'Ripley' Edition.
Standard game doesn't have the extra missions but I assume you can DLC them.
Ripley edition was £53 at GAME and is exclusive to them.
This is a demo of the game, played by varies players, with a cam and mic capturing thier reactions.

The comments while they play are pretty funnyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7EWe69vP1pA
I played Survivor mode at EGX on Sunday, it was awesome. I've never played a game before where I've had sense of fear and desperasion while trying to find a place to hide or run away (without success)
The atmosphere is really intense, they've done a great job and I can't wait to get it!

Alien: Isolation, at least in the early stages I've played, is downright terrifying. When I'm hiding in a locker, and the xenomorph stalks in front of me, carefully examining that crate I bumped into moments earlier, I find myself actually holding my breath as if exhaling would be enough for the creature to figure out where I am. I’m paranoid about pulling out my flashlight for fear that the creature might see it, and once I literally jumped when I mistook a rotating desk fan for the alien’s tail. Just like Sigourney Weaver in Alien, I’m constantly scared for my life.
The xenomorph is back.
The xenomorph is back.
