World of Warcraft?
Discussion
Looks like this lands in Europe in Feb some time. I havnt been quick enough to get into the Beta tho, its up and running in N America.
Is a MMORPG based on the warcraft stuff, Blizzard usualy make excelent games (Diablo etc) and this look sto have the right level of balance, intrest and depth.
Played DAOC for 2 years and it looks like WOW will avoid many of my percieved DAOC pitfalls.
Also going to start on the Euro servers as playing on the DAOC US servers caused timezone problems for all the big fun stuff.
Should run on mid spec PC's, £9 per month subs or so. Character classes are tyical warrior, mage, healer, ranger, theif types tho theres some nice races and the graphics all look a little fantasy/cartoonish and quite colourfull.
Considering its a MMORP and their customer base is usualy the whingyest of all its not getting much stick atm, always good sign.

I managed to grab one of the pre-order CDs, which guarantees a place in beta Hearing good things about this game, but then again I'm also having fun in EQ2. Decisions, decisions...
It was available pre-order?
Bugger... Any word on the collectors edition for the UK?
*hopes*
I want the mini-diablo pet, on principle :P
Oh lovely.
Once again we get screwed...
(Then again there are those that would say paying double the price for a little in-game "pet" and a cloth map was being screwed...)
Apparently you cant use the US version in the UK so there is no point ordering one of those, they require a US address to verify it.
Here's hoping, cya there in January :P Till then I've dusted off my D2 addiction and given away the contents of my Galaxies account.

I believe there is a UK collectors edition of WoW, but (like the collector's edition of EQ2) it's only available through one place - www.gameplay.com I think, and it sold out on pre-orders within hours of being listed.
Bit late on the reply but...
I played the US beta for a month....
Its superb.
I played DAOC for two years and yes, it does address most of the things wrong with it.
And it looks stunning too.
After giving up on DAOC, I tried, AC2, Horizions, that space one that was so instantly forgettable I forgot it....
Non made me want to play an MMORPG again. WoW does...big time.
I've got my pre-ordered beta copy sitting on my desk here waiting for the euro-beta to start.
If you have any questions about it, just ask.

WoW just seems like another generic mmorpg to me. another EQ, DAOC, Lineage, AO, FF11. all the same to me. Ive recently stumbled upon ragnorak online, a 2d mmorpg, and the best ive ever played. Plus, instead of paying the sumod sum a month, i can play for free on a nice little private server called mobro. and WOE is the greatest thing to ever happen to an mmo, sooo fun.
To be honest I won't be getting involved with WoW, no offence to anyone but a lot of the people I play games with are in the US and Canada, timezones are a bit tricky but hey ho we work around it.
By the sounds of it if I pick up the UK version of this game I'll have to play on the UK/EU servers... which they won't be on. If I pick up the US version it'll be useless as I don't have a US postal address.
I do wish games companies would figure out that the 'world' wants to play the same game.
Hopefully Dragon Age's multiplayer system (come on Bioware) won't be quite as teritorially restricted as WoW's.

Took three days to download the beta installer But it's finally installed and I just spent a few hours playing - and it's fun! Very easy to get into and unlike some other games I could mention *cough*Everquest*cough* it doesn't seem to be aimed at masochists who like being punished
Not sure about the cartoony graphics yet - kinda cool but seem very primitive after EQ2. Still, it does run very well even with everything cranked up to maximum, unlike EQ2, which does tend to chug a fair bit.
Don't know if it's because I've played a lot of MMORPGs, but I found the controls and interface very intuitive. However, on first impressions, it doesn't seem to offer the depth of other games, particularly with respect to character customisation, which is a shame.

My friends are all trying to get me to play this game. But after trying many mmo's, ive always been dissapointed and felt like ive wasted time/money. This one much different?
Probably be best if you give us an idea of why you were so disappointed then we can (hopefully) give you a more accurate review/answer...

ummm. Boring, no satisfaction. No point in walking around for hours clicking on little pixels just to get some experience. Little user-user interaction. No complexity or plot. doesnt involve any real skill.
errr, That kinda sums it up for the ones ive played.
