GPL seems to have a massive following from driving purists... but the old GP cars just don't do it for me.. have there been any mods/conversions to use modern cars (racing or road)??
apparently extra tracks are widely available.. is the car setup/model side of it just as easy to mess around with??

is the F1 game even slightly realistic though??
had bad experiences of their handling..
You have to play around with the Force Feedback and other settings and get rid of the moving steering wheel in the cockpit view as it's too slow to react to movement, then it's fine.

Is there an updated release date on this yet? I thought they were aiming for a christmas release, but then it was put back to early '05...

the guys that made GPL went on to make the Nascar games, the latest of which nascar2003 has had some mods released for it that include GT cars.
www.theuspits.com/sims/index.html
that site has some info, ferrari 330 mod and the TPTCC are the popular ones (along with the projectwildfire stuff but i think thats about to become commercial)
I've heard theres a nurbergring track but i cant find it as yet (i think it's included in one of the above mods)
if you want a good tintop sim then give www.liveforspeed.com a go.
it's not all drifting, long way from it infact, you can set your cars up really well, the only reason that the drifting has been popular is that the game engines versatile to do it. it's got FWD, RWD, 4wd, open wheel, seven-a-likes, engines with turbo's, rallycross modes, track modes, quartermiles.. and the flexibility in the car setups to (if you know how) set it up for drifting.
i think that because of the versatility of the game the scenes a little split, but the endurance leagues look like fun and can be competitive, plus S2's out soon and thats got a lot more features in, like damage, more tracks, more cars etc.

The Nascar 2003 version of the Nurburgring is the same as the GPL one, just converted for NR2003.
