PS2 - is it reliable?

Loads of people on here seem to have broken PS2s, usually because the laser is bust. Is this a problem which you should expect to happen, or is it something which hapens occasionally.


Also, if it does happen, it is easy and cheap to repair?

A cotton bud and some pure alcohol on the lens normally does the trick!!

I've had mine for three years of hard use.
Never had a problem with the system itself.

One controller died, just the left dual shock stick. And I've found Champions of Norrath crashes now and again, but that's the only game that ever has.

Hd mine since launch (over 3 years) and its still fine.

Same here, not a sniff of trouble.

wish I could say the same for my TV, Dishwasher, Logitech Steering wheel, etc, etc

no probs with my one,the only ones ive known to go tits-up are ones that have been chipped.

Mine didn't read CD's for about 8 months, just DVDs. Fixed itself though, rather strangely

I've had two over the past 3+years (Sold the first, due to lack of finances)
Both have been chipped, neither have had any problems.

My current machine, which I've had for over two years was chipped within 4 days of owning. Never had a problem.

I'm on my third Playstation now. They have never broken down (none of my family or friends have had one break down), i have just had two stolen!!
