World of Warcraft
Discussion
With my prayers for an online MMO Diablo3 denied, and the US release of this approaching, (and my fingers poised to grab a copy from t'internet) has anyone tried this yet on the Beta?
I've yet to get a reliable "buy" or "dont buy" message on this one outside the typical blizzard hype.

If you're looking for something Diablo-like, check out Guild Wars. Good thing is you only pay for the game - no monthly subscription fees! Had a brief go at it during the open beta weekend before last - good fun too, but not really comparable to a full blown MMORPG like WoW, but great for quick group quests.
Personally, I'm going hardcore and getting Evercrack 2, which should hopefully be out tomorrow.

After my experience with SWG, I wouldnt touch Evercrack with a large pole... ok maybe a small pole... ok maybe I could resist it for a few minutes if there was a copy on the store shelf in front of me.. :P
Seriously though, having played evercrack for a couple of years, and then SWG for just over a year now, I'm rather put out with sony online.
Galaxies was and is, a wonderfull case of a great idea and crap implementation. There was, for a great period of time, no effective endgame. The one they have now implemented is a straight grind and they are in the process of throwing all the game rules and balance in the bin and trying again...
They really couldnt organise a pissup in a brewery (in my experience).
Blizzard on the other hand, having played on Battle.net for an eternity tend to produce high quality games with a massive "just another go" factor. If they've achieved merging the infinite character customisation and items of D2 with their warcraft world in an MMO context then I'm sold. Admittedly Bnet is full of muppets, but I met most of the guys and gals I play SWG with on there so they arent all bad :P
Will give Guildwars a look tonight if I can distract the GF with something shiney for a few hours :P
I don't think the character customisation in WoW is anything like SWG, but I haven't tried it.
Was the end-game grind in SWG ever anything but a grind? And the 'end-game' is one long grind in itself, of course ..
Also WoW graphics aren't close to SWG and the l33t-kiddies will no doubt be there in force .. either way no point playing a game if you don't enjoy it .. I'll certainly take a look at WoW and EQ2 but still having fun in SWG.

I played SWG sporadically, but gave up it up as a lost cause after trying the beta of Jump to Lightspeed - I was hoping that may do something to make the game interesting Same old grind and spaceship handling was atrocious. As many people said, they should have looked at X-Wing vs Tie Fighter to see how it should be done...
Once you strip away all the Star Wars veneer, there's really not much there.
And yeah - SOE are a wholly owned subsidiary of Hell Inc. But I'm a sucker and EQ2 does push most of the right buttons for me

Did you try the JTL beta right to the end? I was in for the last two weeks and they made some pretty radical changes toward the end - for the better, I thought.
Although typical SoE style, there are still basic bugs left unfixed that were reported every day in Beta .. although I bought it anyway
