PS2 - Is mine dead?!
Discussion
Worst thing happened last night.
1. San Andreas arrives.
2. In a flurry of excitement slap it in the PS2 as normal.
3. PS2 makes nasty grinding clicky noises which its been making more and more of lately.
4. Game takes an age to load, then reports disc read errors.
5. Other games similarly affected.
6. PS2 out of warranty so I decide to poke around inside.
7. Needless to say am unable to fix anything and its still not working.
So, my question is, is it worth trying to get it fixed or shall I just go out and buy another one. Tonight.
Also, bought a network adaptor for it a few weeks back. When I did all the online gubbins it needed the serial number and the serial number of my now non-functional PS2. Does this make it impossible to sell on for someone else to use?
All help appreciated!

There were issues with the DVD-ROM drives in early PS2 consoles. I am sure it doesn't help having the console sat vertically. The load on the bearings in the drive increases and consequently wears them out faster. The disc / mechasism then vibrates and the laser can't follow the tracks properly and consequently it packs up. My advice - sit your PS2 horizontally...!
