a slim line one which doesn't support all the games the bigger one does Apparently it doesn't have the harddrive port so games like Final Fantasy won't run, there are rumours it's wider than that as well.
Thing to point out is that is photo mode, the actual graphics in the game won't be anywhere near as good as that - the PS2 is capable of it apparently but coding for it is so difficult apparently (which is why the rumours exist that the slim line version of the PS2 has been made).

Me too! A new slime line one is coming out soon aswell, it looks rather nice.
Interesting slip there. Slimline, I assume you mean! I'm hoping they'll hit 70-80 quid soon, which would put them within impulse-purchase range. It's just going to be hard justifying ANOTHER games console to Mrs. Witchfinder. Alas, women don't seem to understand these things.

Fair enough, but I only posted those piccies because they where TVR related. In game piccies (not many granted) can be found on the site linked above and yes you are right not as good as those, but still bl00dy great.
As for the Slim line one, i do not know any facts on it, but if true will not be getting one. Thanks for the heads up though.
Edited because I spelt Slimline wrong again, bu88er

From the rumours I have heard the reason why a slim line one was developed was so that the PCB could simply be put into the PS3.
Apparently the PS2 is a bitch to program for, and to get it's full potential is fairly impossible (unlike the PS1 where programming techniques improved to get more from the system, the PS2 is much more capable than the programmers are able to acheive). Thus, to provide backwards compatibility they have put the PS2 on a small board which will be chucked into the PS3 to play PS2 games... The Slim Line PS2 was released for 2 reasons in that respect, to try and recoup some of the losses made in the development of the smaller board & to rejig the market and pull people back in the Playstation market.
The thing that gets me about consoles - you can have the greatest machine in the world, but TV's are never going to be able to match the output of the console are they? (I don't know if modern TFT tv's can do it)... Still, you can't beat a console for "coming back from the pub" time!

Amazon are listing it at £94.99 due out on the 1st November.
I will say that this is all rumours I have heard mind, there might be no factual stuff behind it at all. All I do know is that the Slim Line one defintely comes with a warning that not all PS2 games will run - from there it's assumed that since the HDD port is missing thats the problem. The idea's behind the development, well thats just rumours and we both know what the internet is like for rumours

It almost makes me want to buy a PS2.
Would it be foolish to buy a console for just one game?
Im tempted to buy the slimline, and Ive already got a PS2, just because it will fit in my TV stand, rather than lie over the floor, and need packing away when Ive finished
(miss stooz the obssesive tidier's request)
at £100 (with a game for free) they pay for themselves.
A night out with the boys = £50
a night in with the boys and some off licence tinnies = £5 ( 6 litres of strongbow !)
therefore two nights in has paid for the console. And the console will last more than two nights...

Hence PS3 and HDTV.. should be here at a similar time.. by coincidence

Bought the PS2 for GT3 and the GameCube for Mario Kart.
Yup, I bought a PS2 purely for GT3. I'm not a regular games player by any means, I just wanted GT3. I now have three games for it: GT3, Le Mans and GT4 Prologue.
The longer GT4 is delayed, the more I'm becoming a teensy bit suspicious that it (or at least an absolutely complete version...) will be launched for the PS3 instead. They've delayed it for around a year so far - and it's been suggested that December the 14th is now "a little optimistic" - so why not wait a few more months and create double the interest... Or am I just being overly cynical?

PS2 is a bitch to program for though Having said that, its been around for a while now and its pretty well understood. In the same was people managed to get more and more out of PSX as it matured, the same has happened with PS2. We're probably getting near the limits of what it can do now though.
I doubt everyone is going to go and get an HDTV anytime soon though. It'd be a very brave move to make a PS3 title aimed at HDTV, you'd have to sacrifice something to get the extra resolution, which leaves you with 2 options really. You could have a special hi res mode, with less detail (rather like the original GT did for PSX, except that was very limited) and so in some ways it looks 'worse' on HDTV, kind of defeating the point. On the other hand you could accept your title won't look as good as the competition on normal TVs, which is probably a very bad idea
Consoles need hi resolution TV to become the standard before I think anyone will develop for them and I can't see that happening for at least another generation of consoles.

another one.. my god this place is full of them (games-idustry people)
I don't know... rumours are the PS3 will be in another league performance wise... don't think the resolution will be a problem for it.. just my 2c.

be a bit more than a few months before there's any PS3 info out and about..
