Anyone else picked this up? Not normally my type of game at all, but the review in PC Gamer (95%, and eveyone else is giving it pretty much the same kind of score) got me interested and I had a play with the demo last night. Very impressive I have to say. I like the idea of just being able to go kick ass with my armies and not have to constantly micro-manage resources and all that kind of dull stuff

Went out and bought the full game and stategy guide at lunchtime - should keep me quiet for a while

Yup i have it too, and it truly is marvellous. THere is a certain amount of management required, but you can set your cities to aouto manage. I do this for the building contruction, but tend to leave the army building to my own choice. I'm currently in the process of systematically removing the Gauls (French) from the face of the Roman earth muwhahahahaha.

I could never get on with the previous games, each battle resulted in a full on charge with all my troops and getting slaughtered.
I assume this is the same deal for someone as impatient as me?

that tactic is working well for me at the mo, and along with a well timed cavalry charge to the flank leads to an insta-rout, haven't lost a land battle yet. My navy however sucks!

Anyone had trouble saving games? Just played a couple of battles and wanted to save before bed, but it won't let me - so I'll have to fight them all over again!

Wonder if it's anything to do with the no-cd crack? First thing I do when I buy a game is find a cd crack 'cos nothing annoys me more than having to mess around finding the right cd for any game I happen to feel like playing at the time.

Have to try reverting back to the uncracked version.

Yep I couldn't save either till I was a way into the game...

Anyway, my thoughts are -

1.) For no apparent reason, when I am not under attack, or even close to any enemy armies, it will suddenly go "Total Defeat" then that's it - game over - weird.

2.) I'm crap at it. My Armies win all the time, but my cities spend all the time rioting unless I have loads of soldiers there.

Must play more.....

For some idiotic reason, the game won't let you save for the first 10 or 20 turns. Then, after you've had 50 turns or so you will automatically be killed off... this is a que to start the main campaign.

Iam playing it on line as 'SuperlightR' surprise surprise - the interface is frustrating for on line and joining is a pain.

If anyone wants to have a bash on line let me know -
