Am I The Only One? GT3 Link Up Games.
Discussion
Has anyones else tried Grand Tourismo 3 in a 6 way link up session on PS2. ie: 6TV's,6 PS2's and 5 fellow petrol heads (beer optional). And why oh why has this genre of racing game been so badly neglected by the developers? GT3 proves that link up games(LAN via a PC Firewire hub) are totally possible without the power of a PC processor.
Wasn't aware you could play 6 player on GT3 although I thought you could play 2 playing link up with six TVs and 6 PS2s and have three screens each a la Ferrari F355 chgallange in the arcades. But having played 2 player link up (ilink, 2 PS2s and 2 TVs) with my brother I was totally unimpressed. No replays of your race (only a live TV view if you connect another TV and PS2) and only the arcade cars, none of your cars in your garage are available. I was really disapointed
I agree it's hugly dissapointing that it's not possible to use our own custom built cars in link up,but with all levels of the Arcade mode completed the choice of cars available is perfectly adequate. Also it makes for a more even race if the cars are of a "similar" standard. Don't buy the genuine PS2 hub and cables (Megga £££),get the far cheaper option of buying a 6 port Firewire IEEE1394 hub and cables designed for PC's. (Get the cables with the correct end connections for console to hub) It's the same thing! In 6 way link up there's the added bonus of being able to fool around by doing a lap or 2 backwards then unravelling the lap counter. Absolubte chaos at the start line when you all try to turn round and are heading towards each other. Daft I know but beer has this effect! LMAO
