I was contemplating holding off buying a ps2 till this new one comes out, and ive decided not to bother - why? the new one is possibly the most dubious release of a games console ever.

New Features -
added an ethernet port

Bad points -
will cost the same or more than the current range
The reason its slimmer? Theyve taken the power supply out of the main unit, leaving you with a house brick sized transformer to hide...

Apparently virtually identical technical spec to previous versions. Youd have to be a reet mug to fall for this if they release it at a higher price. Even at the same price I think the appearance of the current silver one is better.

Hmmmm.

Was toying with the idea of getting a PS2 just to play GT4, I sold my old one to buy the xbox...

I read somewhere that the "new" PS2 has a dedicated DVD hardware kit and would cost around £250? That was a few months ago so it could easily be old news!

According to Sony and all the suppliers around it will cost the same as the current shape (£99) no price increase at all. Of course the nice silver old style might drop in price slightly when this one is released []

As for the power supply. Where have you seen a picture? I havent seen one yet so cant comment on the final size. I have another piece of (older) sony hardware and the seperate power supply with that is quite small (smaller than a brick by a long way). The other plus point is that with a seperate supply this new version will be very quiet compared to the current shape and its helecopter cooling fan.

Not sure If I will bother with the new shape, my current Ps2 is getting old, but it is full mutliregion/RCE compatible. But never say never. . . .

New one will go nicely with the TV LOL

The price is the same as the old one (~£100).

I saw one yesterday, and it is tiny. If you put it on a shelf it would be no wider than a couple of DVD cases.

Yes the power supply is external but that in itself is only slightly larger than a pack of fags.

As someone above said, ethernet port built in.

Yes that's it (on the BBC site).

I saw it next to an X-Box and it makes that look HUGE.
