Just received a notification from gameplay today - only 22 days until the release of Half Life 2.

Wouldn't be the first time they've delayed it at the last moment, though.

We should run a book on whether it shows up or not. Can't wait, though. It looks so much better than Doom 3 (IMO).

Yes, I just downloaded mine as I have seen threads saying that suppliers pre-orders alone have cleared the shelves before the release date.

With the download version you just use a credit/debit card to activate the game and you can play. On a 3meg connection it took about 25 minutes to download the whole game and once unpacked is about 1.3gigs. If you need to reinstall you just quote your code and download again: I strongly believe that this is the way that new games will go.

I was surprised that the game is only that size as UT2 was presented on a DVD and was over 5.5gig installed

Glad to see that they have 'anti cheat' and that should hoepfully stop the *ankers from spanking my arse using cheats which they did in HL1

But you can't play the steam versions yet though, can you?

IIRC you get to play it earlier than the retail copies, though.

Where did you hear that from?

The Steam loader says it has been released but I can't see anywhere yet to unlock it.

Oh and its just over 2.2Gb in size

ah fat pipe broadband

So being as when there is always a choice I pick the wrong one: Who will get it first then; 'Steamers' or 'Discers' ?

And how hack proof will Steam be for those idiots (like me) who have bought it on line

It had better be, I just checked the properties tab on the Valve folder and it says 3.35 GB all through via the broadband..last time I checked it was 2 and a bit gig, but 3.5 is plain lunacy.

Bloody November If it isn't here by then I will boycott the game out of principle

I am beginning to feel sorry for all those guys that won it with their new shiny graphics cards - at this rate those cards will be obsolete by the time the game finally goes public

Come on valve - sort it out

Well. Valve only have a few hours to delay Half Life 2 again but I have every confidence in them.

Jeez. What with HL2 iminent and San Andreas at home its a wonder I get anything done; routine stuff, like feeding myself etc.

I'd be very suprised - no, stunned - if Valve announce an 11th hour delay at this point. Some stores in the US have already started selling copies ahead of the 16th November worldwide release date, but Valve have said that it is Vivendi (the publisher) that is stopping them from allowing online activations before then.

Tomorrow's the day folks!

Update: just had a call from Game: my pre-order copy is ready and waiting to be picked up tomorrow!

According to Amazon my copy has been sent. Also watching the countdown on GameSpot's webshite to their review and found their weekend article on the whole development of Half Life 2 (including the Septembre 30th 2003 fiasco) very interesting.
