I have always fancied writing a game; nothing too fancy, just a 2D retro style shooter. I have no programming skills though. A quick look online shows there are a number of creator packages available. Has anybody used one / can anyone reccomend one?

Advice is appreciated.

I remember some software from years and years ago. Totally forget the name but these packages are pretty limiting, as you can imagine.

Last one I did was in STOS. Hopefully someone else can recommend something slightly more current....

Oh, the hours I lost to SEUCK! mucking about with sprites and paths, and the fact you only had 4 colours in the pallette…

There's a couple of tools available with the Raspberry Debian installation that let you get started building games.
Scratch is one of them.

Thanks for the replies. I too remember the SEUCK I even managed to get a game working on it back in the day. I was hoping for a more modern reccomendation like one of these:
