So it's coming out here on the 30th of November. Have to say I'm not massively excited for it, but I'll probably pick one up, two versions available at launch, the more expensive looking likely to cost £250 and the cheaper one £200.

Lacking a truly killer app for it at the moment, the Lego City game looks like the best thing to me, but the ability to stop playing it on the TV and then carry on playing it via the screen on the controller will be nifty, especially if the other half appears and wants to watch crap on the TV.

Not really interested, will keep an eye on it, but I think the decision to purchase will be made when Zelda appears on it, or a 3D Mario.

I'd settle for a decent 2d platform Mario, the only game my Son and I have ever played together for any length of time was Super Mario Wii, that super mario glaxay was utter st IMHO.

I loved Mario Galaxy 1 and 2. Not played the New Super Mario Bros. ones though, so can't comment on them.

It's a straight up old school Mario platform game, even the graphics are pretty basic even for the Wii - Graphics and Inovation 2/10 Gameplay and Fun 11/10.

I should add this in in terms of playing with a 6 year old, we just couldn't get to grips with Galaxy and ended up with me playing and him shooting the screen with stars until I got bored and him frustrated.

Anyone know any new features for the console (I've seen the controllers, which looks a good touch)? I guess the graphics will be a lot better and also the motion sensor must've improved?

Graphics are on-par or slightly better than the 360 and PS3, so it'll look a bit creaky once the next-gen PlayStation and XBox appear. I don't think the motion control will have improved, they got that pretty much nailed with the Wii Motion-plus.

The main angle they're going for is the difference between playing with the pad and a wii-mote now, so one person will have the game pad and will be able to see things the other players using the wii-motes can't. The bundled game called Nintendo Land has a few different examples for possible different uses of the system, much like Wii Sports demoed the capabilities of that system. In Super Mario Bros Wii U four players can play with the Wii-Motes and the fifth player has the new game pad which they can use to lay down additional bricks to make their job easier or harder. Ideally you'd have the Dad or more experienced gamer holding the pad and the kids using the wii-motes, with the Dad helping out by making things easier.

Penny Arcade also suggested the idea of using it for something like Dungeons and Dragons, where the Dungeon Master has the pad and can add in monsters and tweak things whilst the other players are oblivious of what he's up to.

Read up a bit on it last night, think I'll get one for our Lad for Xmas.

Little more powerful that the current Xbox / PS3, but as above it'll be blown into the weeds when the new ones arrive but the current Wii was never about the latest and greatest gubbings.

The U screen thing will probably be too big for him to really want to us, but it seems it'll use all the old controlers, motion bars and fit boards etc which must have been a hard decition to make.

New Mario looks good, in a sort of like all the others way, just hope they decide to release more than 1 of them for the U.

I think there are some interesting games, it definitely needs a few racing games though. Not sure the gamepad is going to work that well as a steering wheel though!

ZombiU looks pretty fun, one hit kills could get a bit annoying though. It's about the only real 'adult' game out of the bunch though, getting a bit bored of Mario and fitness games now...

Some good touches there. Could be good to alter the game unexpectedly for other games, meaning no experience is the same.

I'm now debating if to pre-order. Could this be 2012's must have Xmas present?

I think it will be if there is a must-have game in the list for you, but there's nothing that screams must-buy to me, so I'll hold off until something does. There will only be 8 games for it at launch and 4 of those titles are appearing on the other platforms:

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
FIFA 13
Mass Effect 3: Special Edition
New Super Mario Bros. U
Nintendo Land (included in Premium bundle)
Rayman Legends
ZombiU
Trine 2: Director's Cut

Plus two downloadable games:
Toki Tori 2
Nano Assault Neo

They need to get GTA 5 or Forza Horizon on there to get me interested...

Well as they've not announced which platforms GTA 5 will be on yet, it may still happen. Forza Horizon is made by a Microsoft studio, so the chances of that happening are zero.

GTA 5 would be a huge coup for Nintendo if they could get it on Wii U along with Black Ops 2.

Can't see GTA V or any of the COD type games coming out on the U, I know there was a version of COD on the wii once, but it wasn't really the same game.

Nintendo won't try to compete with the hardcore gaming machines like the PS3/4 or XBox 360/720, their market is the more casual gamer, kids and familes.

You missed the announcement that Black Ops 2 is coming out for it then? And it won't be a different version this time. Nintendo have said they don't want to make the same mistake as last time, so they've secured Bayonetta 2 - arguably a pretty hardcore game - as a Wii U exclusive already.

I do agree with you, it won't be the natural choice of console for that sort of thing, but it'll be interesting to see what they can do with the new pad.

I don't see why GTA V won't come out on it if it is indeed more powerful than the current Xbox and PS3.

My little girl wanted a 3DS XL for Christmas, now I wonder if that's likely to change to one of these instead.
