I hope this is just more smoke and mirrors st from Valve - give us bloody half life 3, even if it's just an announcement that it is coming on the next generation of platforms!

Hang on, don't we need HL2: Episode 3 first?

Hopefully they'll pull their finger out and get to it now that CSGO is about to be released.

While everyone assumes it's been so long that surely ep3 has become HL3, valve has made it clear that Episode 3 will be the next installment. They are known to be working on Source engine 2 as well, so it's sensible to assume that the latter will bring the former.
When? who knows.

I dont see how they can do HL2 EP3 on a new engine. Surely it would take away from HL3 when/if it comes out. But then if they skip HL2 EP3 and go straight to HL3 but carrying on directly from HL2 EP2 then it risks feeling like HL2.5 instead of HL3....

Im intrigued as to whats going to happen and how they will do things!

Kotako today linked to this fan vid of what Gordon Freeman has been getting up to for the past 11 years as he waits to be called back into action. Seems like he's finding the wait as hard as we are.

I have to confess I burst into tears at the end, but I am an utter girl. paperbag

That is strangely affecting.

On the question of Half Life 3, we've been waiting so long that realistically, it's never going to happen. We've got more chance of seeing Fallout 4. It's funny, because developers are always trying to figure out what sells and what is going to be a successful game. And yet, gamers are crying out for these titles and we're just ignored.

Have Valve even got it in them to make a worthy Half Life game anymore? The gaming landscape has changed so much and they've been left behind. What have they really achieved in terms of output recent years? A couple of rubbishy Left 4 Dead titles, which by their own admission were extremely easy to make?

In fairness, it wasn't floods of tears. But it was an emotional response that needed a brief eye wipe. smile

I thought Valve confirmed that HL2: Episode 1 and Episode 2 were indeed HL3? Can't find the link, but I'm sure it's out there.

Nail on head.

I am mid thirties and have been completely head over heels addicted to gaming since Turtles and Duck Hunt on the NES. As a kid I used to save up / cajole my parents / beg steal and borrow my way through title after title not really caring for quality. I was an early convert to Sony and was nigh on first in line first the PS2 and PS3 eager for every upgraded gaming experience.

It pisses me off now that I am (relatively speaking) cash rich and (not so relatively speaking) time poor and have absolutely nothing to move on to. I know this has been talked about ad nauseum before; but this thread is my tipping point. I frequent this gaming sub forum really only to get an early warning that something has come down the line that will finally grab me. I swear to God my heart skipped a beat when the Fallout 4 and this very thread started, only to be left out in the bloody cold again. I have absolutely no interest in MMORPGs or online shooters being tormented by a 12 year old from Boise, Idaho who is apparently on good terms with my Mum. I want a link to my past (Duck Tales remastered helped) or an indepth well thought out story to immerse myself in and forget about what I need to do tomorrow. Can the house that finally gets their act together also release a complete game that'd be great if even pay the difference upfront no questions asked.

Bethesda, Valve 2K et al I am calling on you to remember the generation of parent botherers that enabled you to keep going from the first iteration of your game to this point today. For the love of all that is right and holy even give us a sign that something worthwhile is coming.

TL;DR?
For the love of God stop it with these threads. It's doing my nut.
