Having spent the last couple of years engrossed in tactical team play with the brilliant BF2, BFBC2 and BF3 series. I suddenly decided today that my life was missing a healthy dose of ridiculous rocket launchers, sprinting, gibs and DOUBLE KILL, MULTI KILL!!!!

So I downloaded the Unreal pack from Steam for £22. Oh the sheer, complete joy of running around with several ridiculously overpowered weapons, around amazingly styled and graphicly beautifull maps. The memories came flooding back with twitch shooting, sprinting into a room and launching several rockets before getting shot by a nuclear missile.

A great, stupid triumph of a game.

I take it you're talking about unreal tournament opposed to the original single player game? Both fantastic; unreal tourney was the only online multiplayer game I ever played on the PC, got great memories of it!! Favourite level was the CTF course where you had opposing castles and a hill inbetween; used to spend hours on that map alone.

Yep Tourny is the one.

I played the original Unreal today as it was part of the pack. Excellent game at the time but it really has not aged well.

I must have lost a ridiculous number of hours to unreal tournament. I have no idea why, but the newest multiplayer shooters don't hold much interest for me at all.
The announcer was excellent though;
KILLING SPREE
MO-MO-MO-MO-MONSTER KILL!!
I've just cleared out an old PC last week with the intention of running older games, need to track down the disks for unreal tournament biggrin

Funny this subject should come up as only yesterday I was trying to find out where I could download the original Unreal from. It was the first 'serious' PC game I played, apart from Castle Wolfenstein and Duke Nukem.

Unfortunately the internet here at work (offshore) won't allow torrent downloads. frown

Zaxxon, is that download you bought for the PC game, or Xbox, or what? Do you have the URL?

ETA: I've found it. http://store.steampowered.com/sub/683/

I love this game!

Who else always plays as those weird Scarj Hybrid things?

16 players on Oblivion, all with instagib rifles, try it, it's epic.

I still play UT99 to this day. Yes i've got UT2004, but it doesn't 'feel' right, something's gotten lost in the fluency.
There are still plenty of decent UT99 servers still going for online play, though setting up your own can be a bit of a nightmare. Other players tend to favour jumpy tactics which is just cowardice in my book, but if you're a good shot it doesn't matter too much. wink

The original single player game is a haven. Wonderful atmosphere, music and locations.
Unreal 2 has nothing whatsoever to do with the Unreal 'style' and is just bloomin awful.

Graphically U1 and UT99 have dated considerably, but for gameplay they're still at the top of the pile.

Loved UT. Maps were good and music was awesome.

Oh and the taunts and voiceovers!
