Nintendo handheld for a 3 year old....

We are looking into buying a handheld nintendo 3ds/ds/dsi for our 3 year old.

Are these consoles age suitable for our lad?

Also what games and accesories would you recommend?

Take a look at the Leapster handheld. We bought the boy a Leapster Explorer and he loved it. It is very educational but has games so he won't realise he is learning and you can see his progress on the computer.

I think the 3DS is sold as suitable only for children over 6 due to their eye development and the 3D causing problems with perception development.A lot of DS games have written segments in them as well so not suitable.
V-Tech do some good gaming stuff for younger kids.

The 3D can be turned off and pin protected. We have done this on the boys 3DS but I wouldn't get one for anyone under 6 TBH due to the written bits you pointed out.
